Re #47 John. S, Know zilch about Davy's hat!..... Not sure if it's my info you require? for what it's worth here it is.
Born Glasgow 1957, moved four times within the city with parents and siblings. Aged twenty got married!..... I know babe in arms!!!! Then moved to south side of City with hubby, he was thirty [ancient!] so started a family!! moved around another four times with children in tow ended up in village where hubby was raised still southside, converted a Covenanter's Church, lived there all of two years grrrr! then off to mainland Spain. Then Ireland [southern] then to Balearic Islands, returned to Scotland, then back to Balearic's [still have home there]. Returned to Scotland, moved around remote area's in Perthshire three times then settled in Central belt for convience [only been snowed in twice here] and all of twenty minute's from Edinburgh Airport, important. Intend to move within the next year or so, don't know where as yet. In all fifteen moves to date...... To answer Happy Daze John have returned to childhood homes, only one now still standing. Tenement's long gone, remember them well!:

Never lived in a proper house until 1948. Born Brosley Shropshire near Iron Bridge I am told. Lived Droitwich and various towns in the midlands., From about 1940 lived with Grandparents Kingston on Thames during the war years, with brief short excursions up to Scotland to visit with rellies in Glasgow (Shettleston) and the tennements Marion describes. Also up to Dingwall where father was stationed before going to Burma. Have fond memories of Dingwall castle. Whilst living in Kingston must have been a port of refuge, had one family from the Channel Islands who escaped when the Germans went in. Always troops and their families visiting. Even had stewart granger before he was famous, all used to get round the old piano trying to get drunk on watered down beer. After the war returned to Tyneside and in 1948 parents managed to get a council house, my brother still lives there, the estate used to be full of ordinary working people, but returning now is something like from a Rudyard kiplings book. Previous to Tyneside had always stayed in other peoples homes in furnished rooms. Cheers John Sabourn

#56 Dear Cappy, Not the youngest on site....Mr Patel aged 22yrs joined this week. My cousin in OZ gave me details of MN site to locate info on my Gt,Grandfather who was a Mercantile Marine in Campbeltown 1918, joined July 2012. Wee bit shy at first but enjoyed the banter so much came back for more Now I'm addicted!! My only experience of the sea to date is numerous ferries back & forth from Larne to Cairnryan for seven years and a wonderful trip on the QE2.....Lumpy jumper with excess baggage!...... hubby backed out at the last moment due to business.
