Horse Meat.
PRINCESS ANNE; WE SHOULD EAT HORSE.
Princess Anne yesterday declared Brits should eat horse-because the animals would be better looked after if they were tobe food. She said "Should we consider a market for horsemeat?Would that reduce welfare cases if there was real value in horsemeat?"One campaigner called her view "idiotic" In France fillet of horse is dearest meat in butchers. China,Russia and Mexico are amongst the worlds biggest horse eaters.

Re: Horse Meat.
I dont think I would like to eat horse, I am a big softy,
I feed the ducks on the lake next to my house, I do not eat Duck, SHE loves it and always has duck in restaurants.
In Viet Nam and China they eat Dogs, I dont think I could eat Dog.
I have eaten , Ostrich, Kangaroo, Camel, Crocodile, Emu, It was nothing personal, they meant nothing at the time,
But as I say , I am a big softy when it comes to more domestic animals.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Horse Meat.
Hi Shipmates, Horsemeat was the standard for seafarers 1800 to 1930s kept in barrels {salt horse} it according to many, hard working seaman who had to eat it was not beef!!! in the The days of sail you were lucky to have that. But Princess Anne should Know as a horsewoman of some note ,they put all kinds of chemicals into the horse/ and feed ,so it wont be any good for you, and it could give you some real nasty disease. I wont eat it on that grounds, but some of the horses I have bet on and lost, would be better on a plate.... but thats is revenge .....

Re: Horse Meat.
I have no problem with Horse meat as long as it is labelled as Horsemeat , you can buy it in the UK from http://www.exoticmeats.co.uk/horse-meat.html the UK Wholesale price is 70 pence per kilo for beef £3.95 per Kilo http://www.meat-prices.co.uk/wholesale/Birmingham . Exotic meats are charging a huge premium , Horse mince and stewing horse should be retail at around £1.50 per Kilo . It is normally low fat , it tastes OK , yes I have tried it , in a steak in Belgium . I shoot and prepare and eat Wild Duck , Canada Goose . Teal , Pheasant , partridge , Woodcock ( although they are hard to shoot ) Rabbit , and I have eaten Grey Squirrel , very tasty. I love Venison as well . I actually do not fancy eating Dog , a friend who is Chinese tells me it is not that good a taste , but has medicinal properties . They might be fluffy and pets , but at the end of the day if it is edible why not eat it . The scare over the drugs in the horse scandal was mainly related to ex Racehorses which do get a few pain killers . Here dartmoor and New Forest ponies , especially young colts are valueless at the sales maybe £10 an animal , they are culled to enable just the better horses & Ponies to breed . The breeders have to pay for disposal , or make arrangements with a local Zoo for Big Cat food and drums http://www.westernmorningnews.co.uk/...ail/story.html
The Animal Rights activists and Charities are making a huge noise about it , for the pony to survive on Dartmoor it is a business . and margins are tight . So I have no problem with eating My Liddl Pony at all

Re: Horse Meat.
Hi Rob. [ Wild Duck , Canada Goose .]
you would have Big Eats if you live by me,
I am full of Canada wild Geese, I get as many as 14 come into my garden regularly,
They are very interesting But they crap a lot and make a mess. On the street photo I was herding them away from my `NEW ` neighbours or they would not have survived.
.
Not keen on Venison, tried it twice but I find it is a very strong taste.
I have cut down on red meats, since I had the Gout, just eat white meat now, Chicken and Fish alternative days.
Gout cured.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Horse Meat.
Canada Geese can be quite tough , the Skein of Geese is led by Granddad who has done the Canada - UK Flight a few times , you aim at the youngsters learning the route so you leave the old man and shot the cadets . As to venison , if you shoot a Buck in the rut season , they taste awful , very bitter , you need to select the Buck or Does dependent on the time of the year and the breeding season , after all I would be pretty unhappy to be shot in the rut .

Re: Horse Meat.
Just come back from Lidl, where they have Reindeer and kangaroo steaks for sale, will give them a try later, there was something else unusual but cannot remember what it was, and that was only an hour ago, things are not looking good!

Re: Horse Meat.
Keep the Politicians Brian my oven wont hold a whole one , ??? Thinks ???> I could just keep the truthful parts , that should fit in a ramekin . As for Lidl "luxury cuisine" such as Reindeer , pheasant, venison and springbok are part of its Deluxe label . Never tried Springbok , but the last South African female I got my mouth around was quite tough !!!
