Gas/Elec.Meters
I've had 2 e.mails from British Gas asking me (or telling me) to read both of my meters and e.mail them the figures.I have no intention of doing this as I'm sure I seen someone from British Gas trying to justify their charges and meter reading came into the equation,so will not having a meter reader reduce the bill,I dont think so.
Smart Meters. This is one for our engineering correspondent Robpage.A guy was on a phone in on my local radio station and he was begging people not to have a smart meter in their home,he said you are allowed to refuse to have one fitted. There is a website he said i think it was "Say no to Smart Meters".He gave various reasons for not having one in your home one thing he mentioned is that they can go fire how dangerous is that if there is any truth in it.He said that Germany are refusing to use them.

Re: Gas/Elec.Meters
A little tip this guy gave out,the day that your gas/elec go up read your meters and inform the supplier of the figure to make sure you are getting your right share of the low price.I must admit i always wondered how when you got your bill and there had been a change in the price how they worked it out how much you had used at
the old price and the new price, you can bet your life that it would be in their favour.

I had previously read their site , personally I think Smart Meters are OK , it makes a lot of Meter Readers redundant , and I am not as convinced as the website is that they will irradiate your brain , I also believe that the moon landings were real . The system works on GSM ( Mobile Phone Technology ) so emits no more radio waves than leaving your mobile on the work top in the kitchen . It will enable you as the householder to check , monitor and adjust your own consumption because of the data given . The Smart Meters will cut labour and therefore costs . The Infrastructure throughout the distribution networks is aging and as consumers we will be paying for the upgrades , one way or another

Re: Gas/Elec.Meters
3 weeks ago EDF asked me to send the readings for gas and electric. I sent them by email. Then I recieved my bill in the post.
Last week a man knocked on the door, he wanted to read the meter.
What a waste of resourses/.

Re: Gas/Elec.Meters
I always refuse to read the meter. I also refuse to go paperless on line, unless its for my benefit, i.e. something off the bill. when I got my last bill I had £515 owing to me. I demanded that they put in my bank not their's.

Re: Gas/Elec.Meters
Smart meters here in Oz are now compulsory, it makes reading easier and cuts out the meter man. One problem though, it will be 2016/7 before the reading system is in place, had my meter put in last week.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Gas/Elec.Meters
Rob we have a smart meter installed in our holiday home/caravan & I agree with you that they are good for monitoring usage. The only drawback is that the site owners are charging 50p per day rental for the meter whether we are there or not & we only contract for 9 months of the year but have to pay this charge for the whole year which is £182 per year before using a single watt & there is no opt out possible, we call it robbery.

Re: Gas/Elec.Meters
I have a good friend who lives on a Mobile Home park , and the stories he tells about site owners is almost unbelievable . and I agree the charge is grossly inflated

Re: Gas/Elec.Meters
Robpage, re #8 Please enlighten. I have bought three over the years, one after another as my dear father was not always fit to travel abroad, but could usually manage the short drive to the Ayrshire coast. After he died I sat down and added up the expense and wished I had purchased a very small cottage instead. The site owners have you tied up in all conceivable ways. Our site added a spa, indoor pool, gym & cafe none of which the owners could use unless you became a member. They then opened it to the public!.....
