So here it is again, November the 5th, Bonfire night.
The one night of the year when the whole of the UK comes together with the lighting of bonfires, the letting off of fireworks and the burning of an effigy of Guy Fawkes, in celebration of the last time the British Government found Weapons of Mass Destruction. |

Re: Ayes to the right. Nays to the left.
In 1605 Guy Fawkes, along with others, plotted to kill King James 1 by blowing up the House of Parliament (the Gunpowder Plot). Since then England has commemorated the event, on 5th November, with bonfires and fireworks. Occasionally, over the last few years, you will hear people ask “Where is Guy Fawkes when you really need him?”

A local policeman had just finished his shift one cold November evening and was at home with his wife. “You just won’t believe what happened this evening , in all my years on the force I’ve never seen anything like it.” “Oh yes dear, what happened ?” “I came across two guys down by the canal, one of them was drinking battery acid and the other was eating fireworks.” “Drinking battery acid and eating fireworks!! What did you do with them ?” “Oh that was easy, I charged one and let the other off.”
Q: Why don’t they have fireworks at Euro Disney?
A: Because every time they shoot them off, the French try to surrender.
Q: What do you get when you cross a dinosaur with fireworks?
A: DINOMITE!
November the 5th has come and gone…
But some of the things still linger.
I held a banger in my hand..
has anyone seen my finger!

Re: Ayes to the right. Nays to the left.
Cracker night was agreta big thing whan I was a little kid,
We started letting them off after tea the dogs all went and hid,
Smokey haze hanging round for days and granma's ears a ringing.
But now no more gunpowder treason and plot, the only man ever to try and do the right thing in parliament met a very nasty end, hanged, drawn and quartered.
A hero of his time, maybe too early for us to appreciate, but still he is venerated by the many, but no longer here in Oz, they banned the fireworks, barstewards.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.
