A Royal Navy officer from Perthshire has been accused of negligence after a yacht he was skippering crashed into a 120,000 tonne tanker during Cowes Week.
Lt Roland Wilson denies three charges of flouting maritime laws by cutting across a narrow shipping channel as the tanker navigated the Solent.
Magistrates in Southampton heard that the racing yacht skipper ignored a 3,300ft (1,000m) exclusion zone leading up to the collision in August 2011
I stood on top of Portsdown hll with mny Binoculars this morning , they are only 8x30s , I looked South , easy to spot , same direction as The Isle of Wight , and could not see Perthshire anywhere ?? , maybe it was the Wrong South !!!
The Quote is from the BBC , Not The daily , mail Mirror , Telegraph or Sun , and in fairness to minority groups with a sensitive nature , I did not mention that the bloke is a Jock !!

Funny moments with the navy
Was lying astern of HMS Newcastle in Portsmouth harbour. We had received orders to proceed to Gibralter. On checking charts found we were a Plan chart of the port short. Went aboard the Newcastle to see if he had a spare copy. After being stopped at the sentry box at top of gangay, the matelot finally got this young lieutenant out of their wardroom, looked about 16 and straight out of University with glasses perched on the end of his nose. Explained what I wanted, he said the navigator was home and he didn't have the key to chartroom and would check the door, I went with him and sure enough the steel door was locked. For some reason I said let me try as had the pass key of my own ship in pocket and by a fluke it opened the door. I thought I was going to be arrested on the spot as was no way I should have ben able to gain admittance to one of Her Majestys Warships. However talked my way out of it. Often wondered how far that young Lieutenant ever got in the Navy. Or for that matter if he ever finished his degree as he appeared to me that the Navy was probably financing him. Cheers John Sabourn PS It was a Saturday and as usual most of the Navy was home on leave. John Sabourn
