Think your gov is attempting to copy something the gov here in Oz has done. It encourages those of retirement range to continue working for which they get working credits. This allows them to get an additonal amount on the pension. As for volunteers, we have plenty here helps to pass the time of day.

Work for your pension.
I've just been reading this story by Lord Bichard, you've only got to look at the photograph of him to realise he's a clown. He told fellow Peers in Parliament that retirees were a "burden on the state"and needed "incentivising"to make "a more positive contribution".He suggested that ministers should start treating them as welfare scroungers who should have benefits cut if they dont look for work.He was asked if there were ways to "encourage older people,if not tobe in full time work to be making a contribution"He added "If you dont look for work you dont get benefits ,so if your are old and you are not contributing in some way or another maybe ther is some penalty attached to that .It has been likened to National Service for pensioners.

This `person` retired at the age of 54 on a £120,000 a year pension.
Not sure yet who pays the pension.
I could do that, but how do you get a pension that big?
Brian.

house of lords or a nice little earner for some?
Hi shipmates, Hi Rob Page sorry about saying he a tory grandee, but today they all sing from the same song sheet The labour party the last one in government was not the real labour party, as that was disbanded, its the New labour party the same as the torys grab and sell off to the highest bidder and every one for himself/herself but dont get caught with your hand in the till ,like the last Tory government !!! No one is neutral today its about the power and favours for your friends and how much you can get away with before your caught.

If you delve deeper into this persons career he comes across as a time serving civil servant who showed strong allegiance to the Labour party. His main claim to fame was overseeing the setup and running of the Learning and Skills Council. This was the biggest quango in history with an annual budget exceeding £10billion and ran up debts of £2.7 billion before it was abolished. Tony then rewarded him with a knighthood. As well as his pension he is entitled to various allowances for attending the Lords and also has a couple of paid positions with companies who make their money out of government contracts as well as the odd non-exec directoship. He is strongly in favour of further EU integration.
