Hi John,
Not sure of what your friend wants but there are lots of sites on the internet giving information about the Canal du Midi as it is now a major tourist destination. Originally it was a shortcut for goods between the Bordeaux and Marseilles and the only place for barges to turn around is Castelnaudary. If there is some specific information he/she would like let me know or if you wish you may give your friend my Email address. It is in my profile and open to all members.
PS. I live about 15 minutes from Castelnaudary

Anyone looking to email another member simply click on their user name at the top of the posting and it gives you the "Email this member" option. This uses the site's own link which is designed to save email addresses being displayed on a public forum. This is for member's own security and helps to prevent Spam.

canal du midi
Went to Sette which is a fishing town on the Canal du Midi some years ago for Christmas & new year. It was a lovely town and they had the duelling gondoliers on the canal which was very interesting. There were lots of oyster beds round the bay, musical Santas playing in the streets & christmas fairs in town. It was a good base for going to Andorra which we did & enjoyed the trip though it snowed on the way up & the wife complaining about having light clothes and trainers. Also a good area to visit Avignon & the aqueduct near Perpignon, full of history that area.
Afraid I dont know much about the maritime side of the place except it goes from Bordeaux across to the east coast near Sette, cheers....
