    Default Proposed retirement age

The retirement age should be reduced to 60, to make jobs available to the young. The Government say the country cannot afford this, but take no account of state benefits paid to the young or the trouble idle hands can cause.

That actually makes a lot of sense to me Ian. Pensions are paid to individuals or couples where as when young people get benefits it is often for a whole family and usually includes housing benefit as well. Must be cheaper to finance pensions and have the youngsters in work plus it is creating the right sort of culture again. Work while you are young and retire / relax when you are older.

I spat the dummy at 57 and went on the pension at 65. I do agree with the sentiment that retirement should be reduced but look at the idiots that would have to pass that. They have just managed to get the prime postition at the public trough and are not going to give that up. The other point is why would they do it when they can retire at a very early age on full pension plus able to work at another job. No mate you are beating your head up against a brick wall with that one while ever the pollies have it all sewn up for themselves.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

I for one as an ex pat totaly agree with your sentiment. All I ask for, and get, is a pension based on my paymenst. What annoys me is the fact they keep cahnging the rules.

Talking about taking early retirement to release jobs for the young, my mate Fred is 76, ex galley Boy, 2nd Cook and Tabnabs, and Army Major, he has four pensions and is working in a Builders Merchants Yard, He said he needs the money. A young married fellow could be doing that. What is he saving up for at that age. its beyond me.

And here's me thinking you had a reasonable command of the English language .

You should notice I qualified my remark with the word `eligable `.
But in your post , you try to assimilate apples and pears and it dosenīt work.
