I've recently taken possession of a large collection of old pre-war Sea Breezes magazines (dated 1920-1939). They belonged to my late Grandfather who's passion was the sea, tall sailing ships and everything to do with the subject. While these were cherished for many decades by my Grandfather, I think it would be best now if they found their way into the hands of someone/people who would appreciate them.

I'm open to offers, either for individual issues or the bulk lot (whatever's remaining at the time). Buyers would also have to pay postage at cost, unless prepared to pick up - I'm located on the Wirral, UK.

They date from 1920 to 1939 and include a large proporption of the issues printed in that date-range. Some are missing, but I also have several duplicates of some.

The catalogue is 217 magazines in total (including several duplicates here and there). I've listed them as follows grouped by Year (including the months, volume & individual issue numbers).

    1920: 7 mags
    Vol I: Numbers 5, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10
    Vol II: Numbers 11

    1921: 4 mags
    Vol II: Numbers 18, 19,
    Vol III: Numbers 22, 25

    1922: 2 mags
    Vol III: Numbers 26, 30

    1923: 4 mags
    Vol V: Numbers: 41, 44, 45, 46

    1924: 2 mags
    Vol VI: Numbers: 60
    Vol VII: Numbers: 61

    1925: 8 mags
    Vol VII: Numbers: 62, 63, 65, 67, 68, 69, 70
    Vol VIII: Numbers: 73

    1926: 12 mags
    Vol VIII: Numbers: 74, 74, 75, 75, 76, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80
    Vol IX: Numbers: 85

    1927: 12 mags
    Vol IX: Numbers: 86, 86, 87
    Vol X: Numbers: 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 95, 96, 97, 97

    1928: 15 mags
    Vol X: Numbers: 98, 99, 100
    Vol XI: Numbers: 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 107, 108, 108, 109, 109

    1929: 19 mags
    Vol XI: Numbers: 110, 110, 110
    Vol XII: Numbers: 111, 111, 112, 112, 113, 113, 114, 115, 115, 116, 117, 118, 118, 119, 120
    Vol XIII: Numbers: 121

    1930: 12 mags
    Vol XIII: Numbers: 122, 122, 123, 234, 125, 126, 127, 128
    Vol XIV: Numbers: 131, 132, 132, 133

    1931: 14 mags
    Vol XIV: Numbers: 134, 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, 139, 140
    Vol XV: Numbers: 141, 142, 142, 143, 144, 145

    1933: 16 mags
    Vol XVI: Numbers: 158, 158, 159, 160
    Vol XVII: Numbers: 161, 162, 163, 163, 164, 164, 165, 165, 166, 167, 168, 169

    1934: 13 mags
    Vol XVII: Numbers: 170
    Vol XVIII: Numbers: 171, 172, 173, 174, 174, 175, 176, 177, 178, 179, 180
    Vol XIX: Numbers: 181

    1935: 12 mags
    Vol XIX: Numbers: 182, 183, 184, 185, 186, 187, 188, 189, 190
    Vol XX: Numbers: 191, 192, 193

    1936: 13 mags
    Vol XX: Numbers: 194, 195, 196, 197, 198, 199, 199, 200
    Vol XXI: Numbers: 201, 202, 203, 204, 205

    1937: 10 mags
    Vol XXI: Numbers: 206, 207, 208, 209, 210
    Vol XXII: Numbers: 211, 212, 213, 214, 215

    1938: 12 mags
    Vol XXII: Numbers: 218, 219, 220
    Vol XXIII: Numbers: 221, 222, 223, 224, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229

    1939: 7 mags
    Vol XXIII: Numbers: 230, 231, 232
    Vol XXIV: Numbers: 233, 234, 235, 236

They are mostly in good condition considering their age, although the odd mag here and there has a rip/loose page or is taped. They do however have some rusty discoloration/damage where the staples used to be (they were re-stapled at some point). I'd say perhaps roughly 1 out of every 15 or so mags is missing the outer cover - although they all retain the inner cover (a page or two inside after the adverts).

If you require more detailed descriptions of particular issues or photos, please send me a PM/email with your email address. I'm on the Wirral, UK - you are also welcome to come and have a look at them in person if you wish. Postage at cost, plus insurance if necessary. I realise that these pre-war issues can be very rare, and I've sold a number of such issues already to another collector who paid approx £5 per issue. While that's not a fixed price, I guess that's the ball-park figure I'm aiming for - if you're only after a relatively small number of issues. If you are interested in a larger number or the whole collection, I'm of course prepared to let them go for a much cheaper amount per issue - I'm sure we can reach a deal. Either way, I'm open to offers. If I haven't sold these in a while I might just instead donate the remainder to a Maritime Museum.

Thanks for your time and interest,
    Rudyard

I hopeyou can help me. I am Archivist at the Hovercraft Museum, Lee on the Solent and am looking to locate an old issue of Sea Breezes. I came across an article on the History of Hovertravel but pages are missing and I am desperate to get hold of the full article.
I have pages 93 to 100 and guess it starts around page 89. it gives the history of Hovertravel upto 1978 and on page 100 below a table of charter operations there is an editorial notice apologising for the late appearance of the January issue.
I am guessing this article could therefore be Jan1979 or quite soon after that. If there is any chance of locating this particular issue I would be so grateful.

    Many Thanks,
    Jim Gray
