Welcome Dave.
Why on earth would you want to collect those-they are of value(sentimental only) to the relatives of the holder I would say.
But each to his own….
I see you live in Thailand…..don’t go selling or forging any documents you obtain, will you?
………………And the spelling is CompetEncy ,by the way
Best Regards
Gulliver

Sorry David, but you can't help us for being suspicious(we're seamen who've seen the lot)...)and then again, you did make a mistake in quoting a wrong Dis A. No. ?

It is the easiest thing in the world to scan and doctor documents. Change a few dates, names, and photographs and you have apparently gained instant qualifications ! I do not imagine that any of us "Old Salts", would ever part with hard won certificates. My discharge book is my history of ships, good and bad, and will go to my grave with me! (Not too soon, I fervently hope!).

Discharge books
This guy is obviously not a seaman himself or he would have been aware that a seamans Dis.A book and number are probably his most precious possesions. I keep mine to hand the whole time, especially since joining this site. I cannot imagine any circumstance that would make me part with mine, it is a window on the most enjoyable part of my life.

Discharge books etc.
As I have got older I have now got a very suspicious mind, taking into account all the dodgy dealings/scams that go on in this modern world I cant help but think this is one of them.
There is no way that I would let my discharge book out of my sight never mind sell it, my discharge book with all my other memorobelia from my wonderful sea going days and overseas contracts are very precious to me and they will go to my daughters/grandsons along with the write up of "My Life & Travels" and hopefully be treasured for years to come.
This might be a genuine request, which I doubt very much, but as Gulliver said you cant blame us for being suspicious.
On this great web site we are all one big happy family who have all been in the same boat so to speak and if any one does sell you their treasured memorabelia they want ther heads seeing to.
Finally if this a scam, then I think you should try something else.

I have seen some old Dis. A Books on ebay once in a while.

Nobody in their right mind would sell a Discharge book or their 'tickets', though I can see that some documents may come on the market where the owner has died with no dependants. It would be like selling you birth certificate or your passport, you just wouldn't do it.

Who on earth in his right mind would part with his Discharge Book and Certificates to anyone.
