SS Ionian
This is a black and white old film of the Ionian, showing the boys rigging the Jumbo, steam winches, cargo working, and as it was filmed in 1939, lots of war ships, including HMS Barham. Might be of interest to some of our older members. I worked on several of Ellerman Papayani ships, but not this far back kt

Cappy It was a bit before most of us, but this was preparing for war, and in those days we actually had a navy, and were respected on the seas, kt

Re: SS Ionian
Brought back a lot of memories, I was on the EGYPTIAN in 1953 and it was just like watching the same voyage,
same destinations, same cargo handling and the same coal burning, I was a coal burning Fireman for a short spell , so it was good to see someone else throwing a pitch on.
Great.

Re: SS Ionian
Hi Keith.
Thanks for that, it was great, reminded me of a few trips around the Med, my first trip through there in 49 wasn't that much different.
Cheers Des
