Elder Dempster
Hi Lin
I was an AB on the "Dixcove" in 1976. Although still in the colours of the ED line we were actually paid by "Ocean Fleets" whose offices were in Liverpool. Opposite the Liver Building.
She was a lovely old dry cargo boat and I had probably the best trip of my carreer. She was a West African runner. A great ship and a great crew.
Thanks for the reminder. Les

Hi, I was a Radio Officer for about 5 years with ED's....Owerri, Bhamo, Daru, Fian, Bellerophon (seconded from Blue Funnel) UK/Europe - all down the West African Coast.
On Daru we did a sort of shuttle service East Coast USA/Canada to the West Coast of Africa........great runs!
What's your connection with ED's, I note you are located in the Netherlands.
Regards, Steve.

Hi I was on the Perang during 1970 and 71 on my first ship as assistant engineer. Bill Smiles was the chief, youngest in E.D.'s, both ship and the west coast was an experience not to be missed or forgotten.

I was on the TARKWA EDs in 1953. Lousy ship and trip. came back with two broken legs and a broken arm and Malaria.
But fond memories of Tombo Mary, Apapa Side.

Brian just out of interest is there a bone you have not broken or a lady of ill repute you have not made acquaintance with , I think that you were lucky to be here !

That is why I answer to `Lucky`, Rob.
.
. In my life I have had, three broken legs, twice on the left once on the right.
Two Broken ankle bones.
One broken right arm,
Five broken ribs.
one Broken collar bone, clavical. and the clavicular ligaments torn in the shoulder. caused by a bull elephant seal
One broken thumb
one fractured skull,
one dislocated shoulder vaused by an Albatross
I have been drowned but was recovered, my mate did not.
Meningitus,
Malaria,
This year in Honolulu , a gangrenous gall bladder and severe Pancreaitus, almost fatal, just four day to live
and too many stitches to count.
Some of the young and not so young ladies that I have had a dalliance with have not done me much good either.
.
I have done a World Tour of Hospitals. .
.
apart from all that , I have had a good life.
Cheers
Brian.
