I joined Fyffes in December 1965 to 1973. Sailed on many ships in that time :- Comito, Gofito, Matina, Chirripo, tilapa, Patia, Pacaure. and a few others I can't remember. Anyone remember me.

I'm afraid your does not ring a bell but our paths may have crossed in Avonmouth. I did a few trips in the 'skin boats' - Bayano,Nicoya and the maiden voyage in the Golfito. When ashore in Avonmouth I frequented the Merchant Navy club and the Lamplighters in Shirehampton. I lived with my shipmates family in Nibley Road Shirehampton. We may have rubbed shoulders somewhere. Terry Worsley

I joined the corrals. Marina. Sulaco. Reventizon. Golfito. Manistee. Plus a couple more between 1956-64 on deck done 54 trips altogether

Hi Jerry, I sailed on the Chuscal in 70/71, Tilapa 71/72 and 72 again for the Chuscal, usually around the 6 months mark the the trips. I worked in the engine room. You didn't say which department you worked in. My memory is fading a bit these but I seem to recall a Jerry on the Tilapa. Tell us a little more mate. Great ships Elders and Fyffes!

Greetings, I did my first voyage as Galleyboy on the Chuscal in Feb 1969, joined the ship while she was dry docked in Southampton. Sailed to Uddervalla to pick up newspaper rolls which we shipped to Puerto Barrios in Guatemala then picked up fruit destined for Naples, Pireaus and the Tripoli back to Central America through the Canal, back to Europe. Chief Cook was Jim Sinclair, 2nd cook Mike Summersby from Newbury, pantry boy Victor Barton from Eastleigh, pantry an was Frank Driscoll , captains tiger was Tony, . Sailed on several Fyffes ships until 1971.
Gelded , Chanquinola pId off in Tela after she was transferred to the Hondurans. Patia, Patucah, Rio Cobre, Roatan.
Any ne remember,bet me. Did make contact once with Mike Broadbridge who I think I sailed with on the Chanquinola!!.?

Hi all, my first ship after coming off blue flu was the Chirippo, I remember being new to the "pool" and thought nothing of the ship, until leaving the pool four or five lads in their m n " uniform" check shirt scrubbed dungies and rolled up newspaper were sitting on the wall one said"what did yeh get lah" when I said a skin boat they all jumped up and ran inside , all I could think of was "what the. **** have I done lol, but I thought it a great ship and run. Sailed out Garston with about fifteen new Hillman cars in the hold bound for Kingston Jamaica , hit a force 10 which lasted three or four days and the cars broke loose could hear them crashing around all the way over came out just a load of scrap .happy days. I was on the Tilapa in 1954 on theJamaica run missed her in Kingston, stayed there for a few months and then deported, back on the Tilapa in Port Antonio. Took the Tetele to the breakers in Gent, then on the Corrales down to Tiko with Mighty Joe Young as Master. Then on the Pacuare to Tiko, and Matina in 1957 to Jamaica.
Good easy jobs on deck every trip a vacation. just got sick of eating Bananas, Fried bananas, stewed bananas, Roast bananas, mashed bananas, frappy bananas, we were going bananas.
