    Hi Joe,
No that isn't the one. The tender was used at the anchorage at Victoria to take passengers ashore there, plus any belongings, before going up the creek . the one we had was up the Creek to TIKO, It jumped over the wall as we approached the jetty, swam to the side of the creek and along to the Jetty where its owners were waiting.
    Cheers
    Brian

Although an old Posting, this is one that is good to revive, found it while looking for info on E&F Lines for Will MacDonald.
Here is a PDF which i had posted for Will, perhaps other Members will find of interest as well Cheers So sad that our Capt Kong is no longer posting and in such a bad way. My thoughts and Prayers go out to him and his dear wife Anne!

Brian, I so enjoyed reading your story as it has given me an insight into the life my grandfather lived. He was an engineer on Elders & Fyffes ships out of Garston from 1923 to about 1933, he sailed on the Barranca, Tilapia, Tetela and maybe others, I am still discovering more about him. Doc Vernon has so kindly sent me new information on him which I am just following - hence finding your story! My mother would have loved to hear it as her father John McEwan Cole was my very colourful grandfather. He also used to bring home large stalks of banana when on leave, he shared them with his children and all the local kids in their area of south Liverpool, sadly I did not hear many stories about him nor anything about any of his trips so your post has meant a great deal to me and my sister. Thank you. Suzie Moore (see my post).

    Hi Susan
I am sure that Capt Kong would love this Post of yours, but sadly he has not been on site for quite some time now, and i had found out that he is in a very bad way. His Eye sight going, his Walking not at all good, in fact in a Wheel Chair now, and generally his Health not at all good!
He cannot even write any longer , so i really dont know if he will see your Post, but i thank you on his Behalf as his good Mate.

We all hope that some Miracle may hapen and that he may once again join us all here!
    Thanks again Susan
It will be and is appreciated
    Cheers

New to this site, but fascinating read, what a history. I am Dutch, researching for a book on a Dutch Mill Hill priest by the name of Stockmann that travelled on a banana freighter from Southampton in november 1958, disembarked in Victoria. I am trying to find the name of the ship, and to learn about the travel arrangements for passengers (12 in total): how many decks, what sort of cabins, what facilities etcetera?
Any help, stories, suggestions would be welcome! Thanks!

    Arthur

#The type of vessel, you are looking for were known as cargo passenger vessels .If you google m.v.Sunprincess
You will find this vessel which was under the Liberian flag but owned by a well known American iron and
Steel company and managed by a Canadian company. She was a wartime liberty vessel but was converted
for carrying 12/13 passengers as well as reefer boxes and general cargo . She was in collission with a British ship
the Geologist in 1955 in the little bocas off Trinidad. I was chief officer on her in 1966. There should be a write
Up about this vessel as there was a large loss of life ,plus there should be pictures and dimensions of vessel.
At the time I was there the fares were higher than what they are today , all passenger cabins were
Double berthed and were $100 US a day, if wanted a cabin to oneself it was $200 a day. All the best JS.

HI all my first ship after the Vindi was Elders fyffes T E S Samala from Avonmouth to Jamaica 21/9/1960 to 15/10/1960 Payed off in Southampton,
Like most I was sick most of the way out ,The bosun was from the Seichelles and I could'nt understand a word he said.He kept me either scrubbing allyways or polishing the brass on the bridge,( and there was a lot of it)!!Still it didnt put me pff and stayed in the Merch for four years and saw a lot of the world.
