I'm afraid to say this but that statement is stating the bleeding obvious. They had oxygen for 96 hours, the implosion occured during the first two hours of descent

According to the USNavy their equipment detected an implosion/explosion about two hours after the submersible left the mother ship. The Navy person who disclosed this will no doubt see his naval career prospects of promotion come to a full stop, as this particularily sensitive listening equipment was still on the secrets list.

Much as I read your posts with interest, the person you are talking about Mr Cameron has stated on BBC/ITV and other news channels that he knew an implosion had occured on the Sunday morning during the descent as soon as all immediate communication was lost and the wreckage was found where he expected it to be found about 1000/1600 metres ahead of the bow of the Titanic, as that is the normal procedure landing spot for all dives so that they do not become entangled in the wreckage

I wonder but not for too long , as no doubt this case will be picked at for the next few months by the experts at any enquiry , ... that all onboard were pay faring passengers according to the media apart from the bloke driving the old bucket , that they signed a letter of indemnity as to accidents while on board. All members on board will have survivors ashore wives and families still to support , will be interesting to see how they come out of the disaster. Will be another field of employment for the legal profession . Everything is open for scrutiny at an enquiry for loss of life. I seem to recall however that some of the passengers have been quoted by certain media to have a vested interest in the actual business venture of trips to the Titanic. Will put a different value into the equation no doubt. Cheers JS

One thing for sure the old super star law firms will be like Ambulance cahsers trying to get the top seat at any legal proceedings .
Old joke what do you call a thousand lawyers at the bottom of the sea.

    A good start.

There is no doubt in my mind that everyone involved in the fracas will stand to get some of their reputations tarnished even if they did nothing incorrectly. Their biggest tarnisher will be the media. I know from experience the best thing in everyone involved and there will be many ,is to steer clear of the media and tell them nothing , whatever you say it will be put in a different context to suit themselves , I said nothing to. Them for 20 years and when I did they were still true to form . I watched from a distance their antics with others , when almost at the end it came to my turn I took a solicitor with me , just to let them be aware I was ready for bear. I was on the stand for about 6 minutes , others had been there for much longer. A short paragraph in the local paper said mr. Sabourn had been cleared of all or any charges. If I had thought beforehand there was any doubt about my actions during the disaster period , they could have stuck the enquiry where the monkey sticks it’s nuts . And the only way they would have got me there was by charging me with a felony. Scottish law is different than English so they would of had to get a warrant to get me out of England . A rig shortly after this had to be abandoned in the North Sea and there was a death the wireless operator lost his life. The OIM who lived in the USA was presented with a Scottish warrant to appear at the Enquiry , he refused point blank. Maybe he had more sense than most. Cheers JS

#44 For those ex workers in the North Sea might remember Sept. 23 1988 when the Ocean Oddysey was abandoned for expected explosions , the R/O returned to vessel for personal possessions it was said . It didn’t get too much publicity being so soon after the Piper Alpha , but another life lost . JS

The Odyssey sat in Dundee for a while after this before being sold and converted to a rocker launching platform.

The RO was ordered by the OIM to leave the lifeboat before it was launched to go to the radio room and continue sending emergency signal.

#46 you know John I was on the Sandhaven or. The Burnhaven as master at that time , the Sandhaven being the only other vessel who answered my pan and mayday messages I put out and the only vessel apart from myself who launched its FRC on my advice to reach us faster . Out of all the vessels and I would hate to hazard a guess how many vessels were in the vicinity so let’s be very conservative and say 50 , everyone having a FRC. Anyhow on the day of the Odyssey if I was at sea then and not on leave (will have to Check ) I heard nothing on the airways , and those ships were not like the Siver Pit their equipment was first class and a pleasure to be on. Another misinterpretation of the media there were3 small craft and the Silverpit on hands on pulling people from the water a total of 15 men . The Sandhaven itself was not within viewing distance of its boat when sadly lost was still busy getting there . As in 10 days time it will be 35 years since the Occassion my mind and memory’s are well tuned into the facts , the true facts and not the media facts as you are probably aware .As regards the Sandhaven I had the same mate when I was there , who was on her on that fatal night and his story of events corresponds with my statement also. Anyhow will have to check if I was at sea re the Odysey as heard no maydays . Cheers JS

Ref. Above looking at book on the 23 Sept. 1986 I must have been ashore. Vessels on during that part of Year were Silver Pit 27.6.88 to 8.7.88 then someone broke it. Johnshaven 19.8.88 to 17.9.88. Then Burnhaven 7.10.88 to 10.11.88. So wasn’t at sea 23sept 88. I was on the Sandhaven after these . So explained why no maydays heard I was in the pub with Vernon or someone like him . JS
PS Ref. The poor old broken Silver Pit would have blamed Cappy if had been there for the damage , was a danger with a chipping hammer , did endless damage years before put holes in the shell plating of a ship had to be dry docked and sold to the Chinese . JS

Ivan, if as you say some knew one hour into the dive that the implosion had occurred then why the massive search efforts??

There are still doubts as to what the 'knocking' sound was allegedly coming from the area of the submersible.
Too many unanswered questions I fear.

Not all the info we got here came from Mr. Cameron, we also had a local guy extremely knowledgeable about such craft, he claimed that there were some very fine hair line cracks on the outside from photos he had seen.
Very concerned the craft was not certified.
