House of parliament restaurants and bars
I have just written to my MP again, to ask his opinion on how they have the temerity to sit dow in the house of parliament and eat and drink in Parliament at those ridiculous prices, and that remember is LONDON, and its prices. This at a time with inflation running at over 10%, and families trying desperately to feed their kids. Those prices all subsidised by those same families seeking cheaper food. I will post any reply i may receive, and probably the normal waffle. Those prices can be found on line, and the bar prices as well, no wonder there are disturbances in the bar, they are pi***** it up on 1990 prices. This has of course been going on for years, and i have no doubt it will carry on, but when i get a reply i intend sending the copies of my letter and the reply to the local rag. I can recall doing this some years ago, but will see if i can trigger at least a small amount of guilt from him

Re: House of parliament restaurants and bars
Hi Keith
WE have the same here in NSW, drunken MP's in parliament lolling around on the benches, eating cheap meals then getting up and talking about the homeless and kids not getting enough food. They think it's part and parcel of their perks

Re: House of parliament restaurants and bars
This is part of what we all know as the 'Westminster System'
Little wonder so many are keen to get in.
Thye claim it will be for the benefit of the people, yes the people in the system.
Got to look after them or we will have no one to ruin the country.
Was that a typo, should it be run maybe, any suggestions?

Re: House of parliament restaurants and bars
Having worked for a company of contract caterers who has Somerset House, head of the inland revenue at that time, as a client I can assure you that public servants do very well when it comes to meal prices.
The price they paid was less than half the normal with the gov paying the company a subsidy to ensure prices were kept that low.
Some of you may recall the power shortages in the 70's, caused by strikes at the coal mines.
Many companies had to cancel end of year celebrations as there was not enough power.
By some miracle or not the one at Somerset house went ahead with no worries, no power cut there.

Re: House of parliament restaurants and bars
Just looked on the internet, and find the House of commons and the house of Lords restaurants and the bars of course, are subsidised by the tax payer to the tune of £57 thousand pounds, PER WEEK!!!. The house of Lords is the best fed old peoples care home in the country.

Looking at the prices on the menu and converting to Oz I think your lot are being done, ours is cheaper.
But when ay Somerset house working I had a Chef from one of those Carribean islands .
Gret guy with a good sense of humor.
Friday he would empty the fridge of all the weeks left overs, meat, fish, vegetables, steamed puddings.
It all went into the mixer or mincer then covered in mash, into the oven and sold as Cottage Pie.
They came back for seconds, we had one of the most profitable sites as we had no waste.
