Re: Mini Budget
While the UK was part of the EU it was easier and cheaper for employers to import foreign labour to fill vacancies. It makes no difference how many thousands of job vacancies there are if U.K. workers are not trained to do them.
All people claiming unemployment benefits of a working age should be offered places in training schemes to learn new skills or update skills they already have.
To make work pay the minimum wage needs to be raised to a level that people can live on, at the moment we have a crazy system were workers receive benefits paid by tax payers because they are not receiving enough wages from employers.
Also zero hour contracts and bogus self employment in the so called gig economy scrapped to prevent more young people from being exploited.
None of this will happen while we have a Tory government in power.

Re: Mini Budget
Louis, sorry to upset you mate but we have a similar situation here in Oz, but like most govs will only act on the bits that will win them votes no matter which party they are.
Stories of a Conservative wipe out at the next election.
One thing I have learned from politics, no matter how good or bad a gov is after a couple of terms in office the voters look for a change.
Like the babie's diaper, they should be changed regularly.
But if as some polls say the Conservatives could end up with just a handful of seats and be out of office for a generation, that is not good for democracy, in fact what you would have is a dictatorship.
A generation is normally considered to be 30 years.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

This "once in a lifetime" drivel is trotted out regularly but it is just that. There was no agreement that it was to be so, binding or otherwise.
It should be remembered that politicians don't decide when or if referendums are held, the people do.
Since the 2014 referendum the SNP (and Greens) have pledged to hold another vote in every manifesto they've presented at every election since both at Holyrood and Westminster.
In every election since - that's three UK general elections and two Scottish Parliament elections - the pro-independence parties in Scotland have won the most seats, therefore by any political definition they have a mandate for another vote.
Quite simply if the people of Scotland do not desire another referendum then all they have to do is stop voting SNP or Green. Since 2014 they have been doing exactly the opposite.

SNP and the Greens had 1.1m votes for them

In the 2019 general election the Tories received 13.96 million votes.
Other parties received 18 million votes.
Therefore by your own logic the Tories have no mandate to govern the UK.

You're the one who's twisting - it works both ways.
If the SNP have no mandate then by your own logic then equally the Tories have no mandate as more people voted against them than for.

Re: Mini Budget
The Tory Party has an overall majority Govern due to the number of MP's elected.
The SNP have have the same majority Govern in Scotland.
Nicola Sturgeon claims she has an overall majority mandate to call referendum, she hasn't, the majority of Scots did not vote for her party_simples.

In most democracies - including the UK - the party with the most seats is considered as having won an election and therefore has the mandate to govern as per their manifesto.
The SNP have a referendum in their manifesto, they've also won every election they've entered since 2014 and they therefore have the right to implement their policies regardless of whether you personally like them or not.
That's precisely how governments work in Holyrood, Cardiff, Belfast and Westminster.
Presumably you were unaware of that.
