I was under the impression by now according to the media of years ago that there would be umpteen oil platforms unusable by now , they would prove an ideal substitute for unwanted guests. If any shouts of cruelty and not on the shores of merry old England or Scotland , many are in those waters and come under their jurisdiction. Best way of recycled unwanted objects I could imagine. Could even put solar panels on to complete the picture , who needs the South of France for holidays.? JS

Customs had more power than the police, did not need a search warrant if had reason to believe you had contraband in your house , as the chippy found out to his dismay when they rolled up to his house and confiscated docking bottles going back two years . Being off the Pennyworth another ore carrier was a frequent visitor to Middlesbrough where he lived. Most expensive docking bottles he ever had. A docking bottle was a concession and the seal had to be broken. Cheers JS

Thanks for that Keith. As one who only thought the only IOW prison was the famous high security Parkhurst,I had to look it up and found there were 2 more,Albany and Camp Hill. A true prison island.Alcatraz !

Re Sunak v.Truss---- I'm including this just to annoy John in Oz-' (LOL)-cos he thinks I like polis too much-no,not the parrot kind.
I think,as I predicted in the opening post,RichiSunak's campaign is failing and lagging way behind Liz Truss. Neither really has much charisma-which Boris has in spades-and is one thing the British electorate like,whether they think that leader is good or bad.
I think Liz,therefore,is winning after often extolling her working class background,which probably appeals to more of the' red wall 'Tory electorate,as opposed to priveleged,billionaire Richi,who somehow always gives the impression that he only cares about his own ambitions,and not you or I ....

Also,as has been picked up on by various newspaper editorial comments this week-referring to 'assassins'--"He who wields the blade will never wear the crown"...
Many Tory MP's and voters will remember that...

Finally a cartoon from this weekend's 'i' daily newspaper. It refers to Shell's decision to distribute it's £6.5 billion profits to it's shareholders-thus giving you and I struggling energy consumers a kick in the teeth.Centrica,owned by British Gas,is another one.

What's the big deal about lying? We had Trump for four years and he lied like a pig in crap and is still doing it with his gullible base. Continuing to say the election was stolen from him and that he won. And should he win the nomination of the Republican party as their candidate for president he will continue to lie. He did it while he was a supposed businessman (The only owner of a gambling casino that had to declare bankruptcy). He also went broke and stuffed his employees and investors in his Trump Airlines. etc. etc.. Then he had a book ghost written about how he pulled off deals and all of America outside of New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey (They knew him) thought him the great businessman. Your liar-in-Chief is a beginner for what I am reading, "The Donald" would take him on and teach him the ropes. Then you could really have something to whinge about....Like me! Rodney

I wholeheartedly agree with you Rodney, Trump is the lowest lowlife imaginable. But I keep harking back to the fact that he is not the problem in American politics, he is a symptom of the problem. As you know, living here, his fan base is the problem, gullibility, racism and illiteracy reigns supreme. Who, with half a brain, didn’t suss this guy out as far back as his Celebrity Apprentice TV show. Then of course, his other followers in the Republican Party, have mastered his lying traits.
Given this, I am surprised at the support shown for BJ having read many articles relating to his lies. What am I missing here?

Keith,I was just wondering whether you meant Andrew Neil,rather than Andrew Marr? I often get the two Andrew political presenters mixed up though of the two it's Andrew Neil I prefer.

Both of them left their previous shows didn't they? ;Andrew Neil left GB News because he didn't like the way the show was going--reading between the lines he had differences of opinion with the bosses.
Andrew Marr left the BBC after 21 years -"to get my own voice back",referring to how he was tired of self-censoring himself, and trying not to displease his bosses by being too controversial-,yes,'the notoriously Biased Broadcasting Corporation'-my words. I am so glad he will now get his own voice back working for Global,in particular LBC Radio,a firm favourite of mine,and Classic FM.

Graham, your comments will never annoy me, my skin is too thick when it comes to politics, and Is see you as an honest type of guy.
All I wish for is a PM who will be respected by the majority, will be respected by other nations and will do good for the country as a whole. not just their own back pocket.
The global situation is one not seen for a generation or more and will need the expertise of sensible professional people to see it through.
But sadly it will not be such rather politicians most of whom are way out of their depth.
So I just ask the people of UK to pick wisely on this one.

I think people have lost trust in Politics now in the UK. Party membership has dropped dramatically over the years. Conservative Party membership is about 160,000 and labour membership about 450,000.
