Re: Hypocrisy of the Left
Tanks for that Marian, that was in response to a MP that was drunk and fighting in the commons bar. The other one i was after , i think ?, i posted, was after that debacle i contacted my MP to find out about the subsidy of the bars. They all try and get into the trough, i see the police and crime commissioner for Nottingham, a Mrs Henry, who promised to crack down on speeding motorists, has been fined for speeding 5 times in 4 months. They are all the same regardless of political party.

Re: Hypocrisy of the Left
Thank again Marian, that's the post I meant, from ten years ago !!!!, I thought I had posted it, so not all my marbles not dead yet maybe. Nothing much altered from that time it seems, we are constantly being shafted from above us.

Re: Hypocrisy of the Left
#25 Keith there was a case here not too long back where a prominent lady politicians husband was arrested as a drug mule. If he had been arrested in Singapore he would have had to face the death penalty. He was caught in Sydney I believe and received a 3 year sentence . He was out within the year and ensconced in a fairly high government job in a very short time. That is the bare outlines of the case as known to the general public if they were interested , any other reasons for the leniency would only be those in the need to know. The hypocrisy theme is well known in government and media circles . Most people today just shrug and say , So what ? Cheers JS

Re: Hypocrisy of the Left
Some of you may recall a miners strike back in the 70's which brought about power restrictions, rationing of the hours you could have full, half or no power.
At that time I was managing the contract catering at Somerset House, then the head office of the tax department.
They had a bar where prices were at cost, no profit in it.
It was getting close to end of year and departments had their parties.
All had theirs with no power cuts to them.
But you had to feel sorry for them, three persons to each position, head, understudy and junior.
They had to make sure they used all their 15 days a year sick leave or lose it.
Then they had to have a London waiting allowance to cover costs, and a subsidized lunch, morning and afternoon smoko.
Then they went out and screwed the guy in the street for what ever tax they could get from them.
Made Leaches look quite harmless.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Hypocrisy of the Left
Maybe of thread, but my enquiry on house of commons bar, and told ten years ago that the subsidy would be removed, these are the latest bar prices, no wonder the lads are chasing the women MPs after sessions at these prices.

No,not commenting either Left or Right here, but just wanted to say how wonderful,at almost 70 years old to learn a new word 'fakkel'.I should have realised iit's of Latin derivation, but maybe not, because I have also forgotten all those Latin declensions all those years ago in nineteen-canteen too.
Fakkel-it's so much stronger than 'flare' isn't it?
Thanks JC .It feels like it's my birthday ! Love words!
- Etymology
From Latin facula, via German Fackel - Noun
fakkel m (definite singular fakkelen, indefinite plural fakler, definite plural faklene) 1. a torch (stick with a flame at one end) 2. a flare (signal flare, also at oil refineries etc., including the flare tower)
