I fear that unfortunately the NHS is moving ever nearer to a top up with private insurance, and that inevitably means the poorer suffer again. My wife has just had her second knee done privately, at a cost of £9000, she is 76 years of age, and was told on the NHS it was at least a 3 year wait, i,m afraid at our age to talk of that length of wait, plus recover time, we don't know how long we have got full stop. She was in absolute agony, and unable to walk more than a few yards, so we took the plunge, and paid privately. I know there will be a cry that we are jumping the queue , but that is the inequality of life generally, money was no good to us in the bank, so was put to give my wife some quality of life before we all depart this earth. will be interesting thoughts on this.
