There will never be many redundancies in the medical profession. A job for life in every way you look. Who needs a degree in politics or Art or some other never heard of subject . Even the old pox doctor is going strong after century’s . JS.

the NHS is a double edged sword .....it looks after our medical needs ...mostly 100 percent ....it is also a massive political weapon..bandied about by all political parties...it is our biggest employer .....but also a bottomless pit financially...it has grown like topsy and is teetering on the brink of collapse .....staff overall give all they have and on average get a good days pay for a good days work ....but it must be realised that illness does not work a five day week .....and the grossly overpayment for doctors at weekends is not sustainable....there needs to be a proper management overall not a cacaphony of different layers of unions and dictacts from surgeons and others who believe they are untouchables ......i expect a broadside after this statement .....but having had for my family the best treatment possible overall i feel that those who have not had a jab should not be practising .....i truly think those managing covid patients have been angels indeed ....but that is there occupation....i am in awe of there workload overall ....but it is there job .....as is a police officer a soldier a seaman....my one bad experience was a family member with a serious back injury .....the consultant surgeon with the dicky bow tye stated .....he is an NHS patient .....the waiting list is about 7 or 8 weeks ......but i can do it privatly next week ......i asked the cost about 8 grand .....i did not have that sort of money at that time ......but being a strong rugby follower .....and seeing some very heavy collisions ...and the guy after being carried of was back on the pitch a week or so later.....asked a major club physiotherapist to come and look at the injured back ....the whole body carriage was out of alignment .....and the patient was walking 3 days after treatment.....where my other option had been three discs welded together ....for 8 grand ....just a one off ...but it was my one off .....R683532

I fear that unfortunately the NHS is moving ever nearer to a top up with private insurance, and that inevitably means the poorer suffer again. My wife has just had her second knee done privately, at a cost of £9000, she is 76 years of age, and was told on the NHS it was at least a 3 year wait, i,m afraid at our age to talk of that length of wait, plus recover time, we don't know how long we have got full stop. She was in absolute agony, and unable to walk more than a few yards, so we took the plunge, and paid privately. I know there will be a cry that we are jumping the queue , but that is the inequality of life generally, money was no good to us in the bank, so was put to give my wife some quality of life before we all depart this earth. will be interesting thoughts on this.

If my wife was in the position which you were in keith i would not hesitate to do the same .....if i could not find that fee then the suffering would be the only way ....R683532

A short while ago while having a 6 monthly dental check up the dentist suggested ...a tooth is decayd and it might be wise to take it out as i cannot save it ....my wife asked what do you think ....i asked is it giving you any pain ....answer if no i wouldnt bother .....she decides to go ahead ....the dentist struggled to get the tooth out and broke it off level with the gum ....she then stated i cannot get it out .....you will have to try and get a hospital appontment for surgery .....beloved asked how long will that take ....the dentist replied ....there is a month waiting list at the moment..meanwhile the remains of the tooth is not giving a lot of pain ....but she is one tough geordie lass ......we are in limbo looking to find a dental surgeon privatly to finish the job .....and are also waiting a reply from the dentist senior......R683532

The entire medical industry is in my opinion a mess. Covid has exposed the industry, particularly that part of the industry involved in public health as severely lacking. When consideration is given to the amount of money that is spent by various governments on supposed research into preventing pandemics and that we have had experience over the past decade or so with various bird flus, corona virus's etc, their only reaction from the industry was to do what your Mother would tell you. Stay off school, use your handkerchief (mask) and keep your distance. “Expert" reaction was slow and very often wrong with consequences that may still effect our children long after we are gone. I am not a conspiracy theorist and I don’t believe it but some people, with some justification, believe that Covid was a medical industry experiment done on the cheap in China gone wrong.
I have lived in the US for over 30 years and I love it but even the most patriotic American would agree that the place is not perfect. One area (in my opinion and I'm in the minority here) that needs radical reform is healthcare. In the US we pay twice as much as the UK and on average die one year earlier. Insurance rates are as much as $2,000 per month for a family, deductibles can be as high as $5,000 per family member per year, co-pays on Dr visits can be $100 per visit. Business owner's provide the insurance as a benefit and usually require employees to contribute 50% of the premium cost. The owners incentive is to get the cheapest premiums he can, which can effect the service, but even then low paid workers sometimes opt out of the “benefit”. Obamacare (the guy Europeans loved, who got the Nobel prize for walking across the street) which you may not have heard of was supposed to have fixed this but it was and is pitiful. It is not worth that thing that rhymes with J Arthur Rank. It is not uncommon for low paid workers to go bankrupt trying to pay their bills. I know the NHS needs reform but even Margaret Thatcher (the savior of the UK, who Europeans did not love and did not get the Nobel prize) didn’t mess with it too much.
My daughter in law is a specialist pediatrician. I asked her one time if ego was the first class she took at medical school. It is not uncommon to get an appointment and have to wait as long as an hour to see the Dr and for them not to understand why you are PO’d when you walk in their office to spend $000’s. What other service would you buy without getting a price first.

You Are lucky Vernon, an old friend in the RSL was asking me if I had my third shot, told him not until March, he is worried as he has twice been to the surgery, and been told they can't get them, and that is prevalent in the Country areas, people here don't put up as much stink as city people hence any jabs the Govt have scrounged go there.

Des, if you have a Terry White Pharmacy or Chemist Warehouse near you then that is where to go.
Do not wait for your GP to call, they are all waiting for stock.
Delivery is a problem not supply, and all the big boys such as mentioned have their own delivery service.

Des if anyone’s had problems over these jabs I have. All self inflicted as well. I am due for my 3rd on Tuesday , and wife for her second. All could have been achieved well before now but to the mulish obstinatancy of some people. I delayed having a jab which means nothing to me , but my other half believe it or not had never had a jab in her life in 80 odd years , all my thundering and cursing had no effect , as she refused point blank amidst all threats , however finally succumbed much to my relief, as all my predictions from the very first have come true , after Tuesday I will be very or much more happy .This is all down to the stupidity mistaken and dangerous
philosophy of past generations instilling into their youngsters false information regarding immunisation . After
Tuesday I will be much relieved knowing I have done everything possible for someone else, I don’t particularly
worry about self , but one has to be capable of looking after others as long as possible. Injections are not 100%
but are the only partial defence available at the moment , no matter what anyone says. Those that go out
spreading germs knowingly will have to live with that knowledge all their lives be it long or short. Cheers JS.....
