Arise Sir Tony
Tony Bliar is to be knighted in the new year, he wants to be known as Sir Tony.
A petition has been raised and has over 50,000 signatures, the petition is to block his nomination for a knighthood.

Re: Arise Sir Tony
No he is not acceptable as a Knight only, in the Lords. Maybe he aims he can make it to there though . He must have a skin like a rhino as must know the general feeling about his performances. He however must be the only ex PM in years not to receive a knighthood . Thought he may of refused one, no such luck it seems. JS
Basically the honours system has 3 elements The Peerage ( Duke , Marquess, Earl, Viscount and Baron ): knighthood members of the higher grades of most Orders , and Knights bachelor . JS ...
If it is the Grand Order of the British Empire he receives then the order of preference is
The Sovereign
The Grand Master ( was the Duke of Edinburgh )
Five classes with military and Civil divisions
They include Dames and knights , commanders, officers, members , and although not an order it includes also the BEM.
The top class of the Order is limited to 27 military and 73 civilians , so maybe a good excuse he may have he was waiting for someone to die . JS. PS have just seen the Order of the Garter is the top drawer and only 25 knights at one time so increases his excuses on an awaited place. JS

John, he is blocking other ex PM's from receiving the appropriate award.
Brown and May cannot get theirs until Bliar gets his.
