Only in recent years that AC became available on ships.
If you recall many of us had converters so we could use or record players or tape recorders.

Have an electric shaver from way back, has a switch to change from DC to AC.

I do recall that i had a small radio, with a switch at the rear to convert to DC, i had wrecked another radio a couple of years before , by forgetting to switch over. This was early sixties.

Think you might be a bit off the mark there Vic, Shell H class started from 54 and were all AC; I think their last DC ships were somewhere around 50 - 52.

John this reminds me of my brother in law when I call to speak to my sister he always has a quip, last month he answered 'I'll just go and get her, she's upstairs shaving her back' always makes me laugh.... whilst all five foot of her is stomping down asking 'who are you talking to?'.

I know what ships I sailed on had DC and also AC and ED's must have been ahead of the game, same with Glen line. The Glenlyon of 1962 was dutch built and was AC electrics.

All i know is that i had a Record Player that had both on it, as i used it on the Ship and ashore no Probs!

On the Windsor, built in 1960, the Pretoria and Rhodesia castles all DC.
British Hawthorn, maiden voyage late 1964 still DC.
