Marion, ref 50, to show that the bias is at work in all directions, a few days a go, we had a post from a part time fire man, ( i accused him of this and he did not respond), who was throwing bricks at the Fire brigades union, and fire man working in their off duty time ??, also other facts which were wrong. What got up my crawl was that having stated that he had done 30 years service, he forgot to tell all here that the pay he received, plus pension, sick pay etc, was and still is negotiated by the said union. He would have taken this with no guilt. Anyone who belongs to a profesion with the sort of numbers nation wide that needs an organisation to see that the government body does not tread all over them, which is what is happening here. To suddenly without consultation come in and alter members pension rights is a very serious situation, and that what the FBU is reacting against. The employers will not even talk with any meaning.
I am very proud to have served 30 years in the Fire service, and have no intention of sitting back and taking stick. One day when you have treated the public service badly, and the police, ambulance, fire service turn up at your address demoralised, you will see the result, KT

Answer: What the Unions always do, cause the maximum amount of chaos for every Tom, Dick & Harry ie you and me whenever there is an occasion to disrupt. If they honestly were for the people they would PLAN their strike for any old day of the week, not one on such auspicious occasion for the city of Liverpool who will benefit from all the visitors spending their well earned cash. To quote 'some people just cannot look at a situation without an unbiased view.' That remark works both ways
Me naïve that's a joke. What the union should do is have a strike on a cold wet Wednesday afternoon and tell the people we are on strike but don't worry we are still running the trains so if you want to get from AtoB you can still do so.You operate to have maximum impact just like any business does. For the people that's a joke.a man/woman goes to work to earn a living to look after his family and he/she will pursue the best deal he can from the employer. There has not been a train strike for over 20 years and I would like to know Marian the last time that you were affected by a strike in this country. The unions and the employers got their heads together negotiated terms and conditions and the strike was averted the union did no harm to any member of the public. The rail companies kept on putting out bulletins telling of further sevices tobe taken off so who caused the chaos here the unions or the rail companies,no prizes for guessing the answer I think a blind man could see who was in the wrong here.

#52, You perhaps assume I have never been a union member Keith? I have, I had no option, was forced into it and being young [17] at the time was told not to "rock the boat". I am well able to think for myself so that bullying really went against the grain. In the five years employed by the GPO never once had an occasion to use them. Since then worked with my husband who is self employed [always has been] has only ever had unions involved when it's the mining side of the business. There was only ever one strike and that was in 1984! Have posted already on that. We personally have never had a problem with the union because he is a decent employer who paid is loyal staff well. They used to whistle going down the mine [a job I would have loathed] When it comes to Firemen, Nursing Profession and on the whole, Police! they have my respect and consideration and I would certainly think twice regarding their grievances, definitely not for others who strike to cause mayhem when they think fit. My upmost respect are for the Armed Forces and anyone who plays fair

2'The unions and the employers got their heads together negotiated terms and conditions and the strike was averted'

The Employers had no choice not to What part of ransom do you not understand?

3 'I would like to know Marian the last time that you were affected by a strike in this country'

Why?? I always find a solution Jim, never been beaten yet, thrive on challenges. Every other year we are threatened with rail strikes up here, always in time for Christmas/New Year, hence back up plan if needed

4'The rail companies kept on putting out bulletins telling of further sevices tobe taken off so who caused the chaos'

The Unions of course! They played them at their own game, the Unions don't like that Jim do they???

I believe the Unions realise they don't have the backing of the public that they courted and had years ago

I remember being in a job and I just loved going to work so much so I would often do 12 hours.I thought I will stay here until I am 65 I couldn't imagine doing any other job,who needs a union not me I am getting a good deal here,I'm treated with respect and thought highly of no I would never join a union if ever approached here.Besides our wages we also worked on commission,I was given a figure when I became manager and for every £1000 that I increased the take by I got a fiver this system had been in place 80 years since the company started.I had been on a contract of employment for 14 years when the company said,we are doing away with the commission and putting you on a standard monthly wage I kept the area manager in my office till 8pm as I wouldn't sign the new agreement,we didn't have a union.I had to sign it in the end knowing full well that I would be loosing money eventually. This happened all over the UK so consequently where all hands had been happy plodding along without a union the company became the enemy and we all joined ASTMS and my loyalty went out of the window. This new area manager came on the scene,if he knew you were in the union he would try and put pressure on you and bully you he didn't bother me.He hated unions I don't know what he did but one day he came to us begging for a form to join the union. The fiver commission stayed with you and it was carried forward year on year I was upto £45 pw in 1970 besides my wages.

There was a time here in Victoria when every Christmas there would be a brewery strike causing havoc for so many at that time of year. Now it never occurs as there are now so mnay interstate beers on sale. We have not had a major strike of any sort here for years, just hope it lasts.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
