Eoin Bishop
With much regret I have to inform you of the passing of Eoin Bishop on
Monday evening, May 11th, New Zealand time. He had been suffering from
several health issues over many years but finally succumbed to lung
cancer. He was admitted to hospital last Sunday evening, transferred to
North Shore Hospice on the Monday and died a few hours later with his
family around him.
Eoin was a cadet on the Otaio, and sailed on numerous Company vessels
including Pipiriki, Dorset, Wharanui, Tekoa, Cumberland, Tongariro,
Westmoreland, Otaki, Huntingdon, Manapouri, and Hurunui. When he came
ashore he worked for ACT down at the Auckland container terminal as a
ship planner. He later became a ship surveyor.
He was the founder President of the New Zealand Shipping Company Association elected
on June 5th 1975. Also he was a member of the Durham Association.
Mike Davis.
