Re: Tony Wilding (This really shook me )
HIS LAST TRIP.
"I never passed a hail." Late Capt. J. M. White.
''Mate, get ready down on deck,
I'm heading for the shore;
I'll ring the bell, for I must land
This boat for evermore.
"Say, pilot, can you see that light —
I do — where angels stand?
Well, hold her jackstaff hard on that,
For there I'm going to land.
''That looks like Death that's hailing me;
So ghasdy, grim and pale;
I'll toll the bell — I must go in;
I never passed a hail.
"Stop her! Let her come in slow;
There! That will do — no more.
The lines are fast, and angels wait
To welcome me ashore.
"Say, pilot, I am going with them
Up yonder through that gate;
I'll not come back — you ring the bell
And back her out — don't wait.
''For I have made the trip of life,
And found my landing place;
I'll take my soul and anchor that
Fast to the Throne of Grace."
"Across the seas where the great waves grow, there are no fields for the poppies to grow, but its a place where Seamen sleep, died for their country, for you and for peace" (Billy McGee 2011)

Re: Tony Wilding (This really shook me )
So another brother of the sea crosses the bar leaving all who knew him to mourn his passing. A good man who obviously loved life with a passion choosing as he did to spend his final years in another country, how many would be brave enough to do that? His time there may have been cut short but they were by his words very good days. His comments and input to this site will be sadly missed by many.
Sail in peace my friend, enjoy Fiddlers green until the day when once again will all be reunited on another ship.
Sincere condolences to Annie and all Tony's family.

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Tony Wilding (This really shook me )
good evening all.
I would just like to say a few words on behalf of my late stepfather tony wilding.
I am truly humbled by the kind words and consideration everybody on this site has for my dad although I know that you did not know him in person .I feel that many probably felt that they did as by the way people speak of him.
He was an inspiration I wish I had the guts to do half of what he achieved in his lifetime .it should be a lesson to me to . he was an all round wonderful person whom now I miss very much and knowing that I shall never see him again is very hard to come to terms with.
I remember when I went to his flat to give him a fathers day card june 2012. whilst we was chatting he produced a cathay pacific airline ticket to Cebu. he said to me what do you think paul?
I already knew he had been planning on going to the phillipines as he had been speaking to annie for two years prior to this. my answer to him was "dad go to where your heart tells you to go to" well he was surprised by my answer. and I said to him if that's what makes you happy ,and dad you are not getting any younger and you have waited so long to see annie. also if this is a chance of some true happiness then please go with my blessings.
When I read dads postings on here for me its like I can hear him speaking them as how he writes them is how he would say .please or offend . and I have not even got halfway through with reading them . some I can relate to as I have actually heard some of them from him especially of his days with trinity house as that's from when I first knew him when I was 7 years old. sometimes if I was lucky could get to go on board if his ship was berthed close to home (which more often than not it was) he would take me round the ship and down into the engine room and I would marvel at it all it was very fascinating as he would explain it all to me.
he was a great father to me and husband to my mother . taught me right from wrong and was always there to help or listen also to defend me in times of trouble.
before he left for Cebu I knew he was unhappy as he would always say he couldn't cope with the loneliness and when I suggested he came round to mine or go and visit the boatyards he liked to go to he said to me its not the same as female company. that's why im going to Cebu.
so please gentlemen raise a glass to my much loved, departed but never forgotten dad tony wilding.

Paul, reading this shows the best that anyone can wish for in a father and son relationship. My Margaret and I will most certainly be raising a glass to you both this evening on this side of the world.

Re: Tony Wilding (This really shook me )
doc thank you for all the effort you are putting in for annie and the child she will still need help until he finances are in her favour. she may have lost everything as well as tony and I still think she may need a little financial help till she gets to near normal I don't think we are doing anything that we would not do to any member that is having a hard time as well as a sad time for them I am not into any type of banking but understand how any help can be sent either to whoever she is staying with at the moment or to her herself but what is the easiest way it can be done is a bit over my head? I don't know his financial position was but weather skint or loaded I think it would be a kind act to a friend in need at this time to a shipmate? one thing that pits us above all other industries a seaman will always empty his pockets for another seaman anywhere in the world and not ask for anything back that's what we are a brotherhood for life? just my view.jp

Re: Tony Wilding (This really shook me )
Hi John I had received a message from her good Friend Maja just this Morning and she had made a suggestion that any Funds that Members may be willing to donate be put into a Direct Deposit Bank Account. Apparently Annie does have an account! But I will await my reply to her and see what comes of all this! As said yes I am sure that Annie is at this time with not much at all>Will keep all updated as things happen! Thank you John too for your kind words! Cheers mate
