Captain Steoehn Glaister (Steve) Robinson

It is with regret that I advise that I have been informed that Captain Steoehn Glaister (Steve) Robinson died in Nelson on September 15th 2012.
Regretfully details are skimpy.
Steve Robinson was C/Officer on Empire Windrush at the time of the fire and eventual sinking of the ship in the Mediterranean when she was carrying troops returning to the UK from Korea in 1954.
He was awarded an MBE for his part in the successful evacuation. The citation attached to his award is detailed in Gordon Holman's 'In the wake of Endeavour' on page 211.
He sailed in Northumberland, Devon, Stafford, Dorset, Norfolk, Hinakura, Empire Windrush, Ruahine, Orari, Essex, Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucester, Suffolk, Cambridge, Kent, Derby, Turakina and Hurunui from 1947 to 1973
Members will remember the epic tale of the Gloucester, written by Captain Robinson, which was published in Crossed Flags in the issues 91, 92, 93 and 94 in 2009
On retiring from NZS & P & O GCD in 1973, he joined the Cook Strait rail ferry service.

Always sad to hear of anyones death,let alone an Ex Merchant Navy Man!
May i convey my Condolences(belated) to his immediate Family and Friends and hope that they find strength to accept their sad loss! I am sure he is missed dearly!

I would like to express my Condolences on the passing of the good captain.
My Late Father Robert Baker (Rangitiki ) would have known all of these Gallant men who took the NZ.S. Co throught the 2nd World War, I too was fortunate to have sailed with some of these fine men, one including Captain Hollingdale, , Oscar Britain and a few more.
