john the eventual union president slater from shields was an avowed communist and stated this to my face.......he promised in the eagle vaults a seamans bar in shields .....he would get a min of 200 pounds per week for seamen .....he started his breakaway movement i think it was 2 bob to put your name on it .....sadly it was the beggining of the end ...apart from the coming containerships ......world trade was shrinking .....as stated the emerging nations were building great fleets .....the amount of trade being lost was incredible.....whatever was coming was seen by the accountants ....so other investements were sought......if there was the big returns as of the past the shipowners would have still traded.....as stated before businnes is businnes love is bullshit ......there is no friendship in busines as you are fully aware ....there is only one goal ...profit ......if there is profit people will be employed ....no profit no jobs .....just my view ....it has happened in every trade and businnes over the last 50 or so years shipping ...mining ......textiles .....newspapers will be next .....we even import fruit and veg from africa etc etc ......if we dont change we die ......this country was near to that till we got the brexit underway .....hope fully when we get the euro off our backs .....we willtruly prosper again.....regards cappy

Very true Cappy, but the feral Labor opposition does not se it that way.
Often complaining about the amount of money some companies Make, well mate no money no work.


Then of course the socialists say there should be no profit , well then again no jobs.

The GREENS here want the electricity market taken back by the gov at a cost of some $40 billion so the public can have cheap power.

The communist party was a recognised political party at one time but so much adverse publicity about it that it had to get under the beds with the rest of the reds . A fear that any democracy should never be afraid of . That FBI Chief Hoover was the starter for the rumours probably with the support of many in government of the time. In a democratic society one can be of any Faith colour or creed, but communist apparently is a no goer. Such is the panic that can be caused by certain departments of governments to suit their own ends. Cheers JS

Think there were various claims he was bent in every possible direction , there was a crooked man who walked a crooked mile, after he was dead and gone some found the courage after all his paperwork and dossiers were gone , to stand up and speak. Even think Charlie Chaplin was allowed back into Hollywood. Think Charlie had a backlog of children by different wives , think Olga was his last one. A lot younger than him think he was about 80 when he fathered the last one , so still hope for some. JS
