    Hi John.
You were on as many BTC tankers as I was, you must have spent many an Hour sun bathing up the Gulf. Welcome to the site plenty to peruse, check out the BP Shipping Company articles maybe some one you sailed with there.
I will ask as sure as god made little apples someone, like Cappy or John S will, and I'm sure some of your crew mates would have, are you any relation to George in Port Said?
    Cheers Des

If you are then must be related to Cappy , who also had shares with the same fellow. Was the leading light behind the nationalizing of the canal. Although wont admit to it. JS

    Hi Des
Strange you should ask if I was related to George Robey from Port Said as that was one of the first things a bumboat guy there asked me, when I went through the canal not long after it opened after the 6 day war, as he was trying to sell me some tatty stuffed camel, I told him I was as distant relation, well I was quite tanned after being round the Med, but the truth is ...no.

#5 I bought one of those stuffed camels and some time after the stitching came away. The contents of the stuffing was old blood stained bandages they received the reverence due to the them and were buried in the dustbin. Hope yours were a bit more healthy. If you bought one that is. Cheers JS.

Hi John, would have sailed together on the Trent. I transferred from the Esk, left her in Europort on the 22nd December 75 and joined the Trent in Stockholm on the 27th December.

Hi David - good to hear from you
Regret the grey matter does hold the same info as it used to so I don't recall your name. I was a Deck Petty Officer then, I joined the Trent in Amsterdam 31/10/75 and signed off at the Isle of Grain ( oh! what a place off to Stanford-Le-Hope and a train to London) on 23/01/76. All I really recall about Stockholm is that is was very very cold especially as I was involved in cargo discharge doing 6 on 6 off watch keeping duties. Don't think I even managed a run ashore as was generally the case on tankers.
BP had, probably like other companies at the time, introduced General Purpose ratings to replace EDH/AB's who then became GP1 rating working by rota either engine-room or on deck which for me was not really my ideal work as I was far more interested in the deck side of life.

    Hi John,
We must have been on the Port Nelson at the same time, sailing to NZ via Fiji with Sir Francis Chichester and his wife as passengers to New Plymouth. My second trip on the Port Nelson as 2nd Electrician. Vic Hunt was the skipper.
