Hello, TS Glen Strathallan @ 1967 Eng Cadet training This got my attention, she was sunk by the owners covenant as a dive wreck when she could no longer be used for training purposes. previously in 1958 she was a dormitory ship alongside the Arethusa Training ship owned by Shaftesbury homes. I was the boiler boy on her in 1958. Small world welcome on board. R

I was an Arethusa boy 1958/1960 and remember the Glen Strathallen being tied up alongside and during that time she never moved.I believe eventually she went to King Teds Nautical college in London. Before she was sunk in Whitesands bay Plymouth her engines were removed and now I believe are on display int the Science Museum in London.

I THINK THE SS JOyA MAcance should be mv not ss. I served my time at Grays on her when she was being built.....one of the last at Grays. Happy days!!!! She had a Grays Doxford.

    Hi William
Possibly the one he lists is the later Joya McCance, did not the earlier one become the St Margaret later on ??

Yes you are correct Doc. I have found out that Bill's JMc was bought by Houlders as the Beauval in1966 and was a steam turbine and renamed JMc....my JMc was sold shortly after and renamed Margaret. There is a long thread about the SS Joya McCance on another ships site.

Quite correct - the ss Joya McCance was laid down as the BEAUVAL. I sailed on her from Middlesbrough in ballast [tank cleaning of heavy Nigerian wax from the crude oil she carried] to Cadiz for dry dock circa Aug / Sep 1968 and thence on to Nigeria [Bonny] for SHELL crude oil to Curacao and so on - finally making Tranmere a couple of times and paying off from her there. Not a bad ship for my first one.
