    Hi Stuart.
Welcome to the site, your Dad has a fine line up of ships there, stay with it, you never know on this site who will have sailed with him, check the shipping Company forum in case one of his ships is mentioned.
    Cheers Des

    Hello Stuart
Thank you for listing your dear Fathers details and as said a good lineup of Ships and Service.
You may need to (when the National Archives Reopen in full) to apply or go there for his CRS10 Documents ,these will have his full Service Records with all Ships etc.
But to get the actual data ob the Ships you will need the Voyage Record Cards from the Guildhall Library (i believe also now closed until all is over with the Health issues)
These Cards will show where the Ships went etc, plus some have other interesting info on them.
You can also apply for the Crew lists of the Ships that may be available from the University of Canada ,these lists also hold Ships Logs ,so that will help as well.
All this research takes time and Money but if one is really interested in doing it,after its all put together its well worth every cent, this i have found out over the Years

As said though you and many others will now have to wait till everything is once again Open and operating as normal.
    Cheers

What a blast from the past is your posting. My Father was Captain J.C.Gough (Jim) who was a great friend of both your Father & Mother, I believe he sailed with your Father on several of the Wilson Line ships. Those that I remember the Salerno where my Dad was Chief Officer in around 1947 and was certainly on her when she hit a mine in the North Sea on her way back to Kingston Upon Hull. The Salerno was a year or so later his first command. He went on to command Tasso and Bravo that I remember, but was also on the Marengo, Tinto, Malmo, Palermo etc at various times.
I remember visiting your Father & Mother on more than one occasion with my Dad when you lived nearer to Albert Dock, my greatest memory being of your Dad's model making ability. I remember he had just completed an incredible model of a ,I think, a German lifeboat. It was a stunning model.
I think I have his discharge book somewhere so I will have to check the other ships.

I look forward to hearing that you received this as I have very fond memories of your parents.

    Hi Stuart,

I think we may have something in common.

Weren’t you a bus driver in Hull in the ‘90’s? Also did some DJ’ing? My name is David Hammond, I was on the buses too.

Anyway, more on point for the subject in hand,I noticed you have the “MV SPERO”. My grandad was ship’s engineer on that one, possibly even chief engineer.

Apparently he also did convoys across the Atlantic during the war, and was torpedoed a couple of times, but beyond that I know virtually nothing.

He was as old as the year, so he would have been 50/51 in the year you have marked.

His name was Fred Siddle. I have been trying to find out more about him and what ships he sailed on, but have not had a lot of luck.

We’re they all, on your list, from Ellerman and Wilson?

Perhaps we could liaise and perhaps you have some crew lists for some, or all of the other ships in your list.

It would be good to hear from you.

    Regards, and stay safe.

    David.
