    Notes:
Although I have been a member of this site for some time I have just finally got round to putting myself on the Crew List.

I did 3 weeks at the Fireman's Training School at Newcastle from 9 October 1964 until 27 October 1964.

I look back on these years and think how lucky we were to be young at this time and have this opportunity to travel the world, and be paid for it.

Charlie, wondering if you may have sailed with John Levins. He was many years ,out of Liverpool,on the Media.Parthia,Maurie etc.
Was in the Wheelhouse with him,on the Mary at one time. We were both logged . Ten a.m one morning ,after leaving New York. Me for sitting down on the Gangway . Reported by a vindictive night Officer, known as Bell, the idiot. John, for ,not even turning-up for My relief .He'd been pi--ing -up on the Mauretania , on the Cargo brand Whisky.
Didn't affect our futures, though. As I had a couple of Deckman's jobs, And John ,later on ,went Bos'n on the Elizabeth.

Not true, the hump was where Mary kept her wooden leg.

Like ,the Height impaired Person (modern term).
Asked the Boss Bellringer if he could become one their team.Chief looked him up and down, saying ,"We'd love to have You. Though I doubt you could reach ,some of the higher Ropes"
Fella ,says ".No Probs!. I've rung in Norwich ,previously." Impressed/Chief takes him up to the Belfry .to meet the others,at practice. " Show us how you go " He says. Fella Goes to the far Wall.Takes a Quick Hop ,step ,Jump turning his head sharply ,Clang ! perfect Note! pulling-up at the Wall ahead Team wakes up. " Do that again says "Chief.
Repeat performance ,identical result. "Go ask the Vicar to come up ",He orders .one of the juniors.

Vicar arrives, receives an inspired explanation . Fella , is asked to give another demonstration, again , Clang !Perfect. Vicar says , 'Yes ,Chief, be delighted on your behalf ,to welcome him to the throng.".
Formalities over. Chief Says ,O.K. La! Be Here for .Pull-Off ,(think that was the expression,He used .Possibly ,as the Art is Camp anology) Sunday 6.30a.m Sharp !
Comes ,Sunday Morn. All assembled. "Trial Run Boys," Turns to our Fella,O.k .You first". Fella Does The Hop Skip Jump Clang ! lands awkwardly .is propelled forward ,through, the Open window in the Wall.
Some mins later the Vicar is approaching his Church.Sees a small crowd ,around a Figure ,lying dead ,on the footpath. The attendant Bobby, note book and pencil, in hand turns to the Vicar , now bent over the Figure . "Did you Know Him .Sir!" "No! .not really. Though His Face Rings A Bell "
