always nice to have info on all Crew
I see you were on both Winchester and Stirling Castles ,likewise myself but

Asst Stwd with two sitting of 14 Bloods each time ! Whew!! Hot through the Tropics!

Hi! Herbert, looks like we were chasing each other round, over those years.

I can identify with six of those ships ,possibly seven.(Not sure if it was the Europic,? was returned to Felixstowe on after ,my final U.K. Ship, pay-off,after Dry-docking ,the Celtic Ferry. Antwerp.26 .1. 68. ( Been Peeping at my Books) which happened two days ,later.
Some Ten days ,on from then . Was out of Southampton 102 Berth ,on the Fairstar,as A Ten Pound Pom. Bound for Sunny Australia. (Best ten Quid ,I ever spent!)

The other ships concerned, not necessarily in the same order,Are the Mauretania,The Caronia, the two Queens ,the Winchester Castle.
    A little Aside!
Some three years after arriving Melbourne .Had been granted A flexible ,Three Months leave From the Melb.Wharf. Excellent Employers, The United Stevedoring Company. Had told them"Hoped to work a Ship over" Long Story short. They said.' let us know ,when you're ready " to go ,and also coming back.
Went aboard a Swede ship the Goonawarra at S.Wharf ,A Sunday afternoon. Knocked on the Mates Door, (my timing ,was atrocious) He.d just "got his head down " after the Sunday lunch . Wasn't too Happy. Ja! " Wondering if you've any vacancies, for an A.B. ?Chief" He said ,"Vell, we do need one, but think the Consul in Sydney Has one coming. Give me your details, Phone number." Thanks anyway Chief."
Monday ,back at the Flat, in Elwood,Preparing for a Twilight Start 3 to 11p.m. Just after 1 P.m. Phone rings,Guttural voice, Evan Lewis ! ( me Yes -Ja,)continues, "You still vant the Yob!", Yes! ,Vell the Radio Officer is going to the Swedish Consul, shortly, with the Papers. The Consul is at the Electricity Offices in Flinders Street . We are Sailing 4.p.m. Panic! My suit was at the dry Cleaners a mile away in Elsternwick,Car was parked outside the Flats .Ring work. Ring Friends in Nunawadding ,as prearranged ,to Keep an Eye on the Hillman Imp, Ring The Girl Friend. As Her Office Mate's Dog , was going -off for a win ,at Olympic Park.that evening After some weeks of Scratchings,( Waiting for the right Field)
Getting back to the .Celtic Ferry. We.ve Passed Ushant ( Some six weeks after leaving South Wharf, We've passed Ushant ,via Adelaide ,Port Pirie, Beauty Point ,Hobart ,en route Via Durban ,for Bunkers ,Stores) Bound for final Port. StocKholm.
O.K! , Back 'on the Wheel now, English Channel, Watches, after weeks of sunshine, and enjoyable daywork .
Beautiful ,Clear still night 12-4 Watch. No sound, just the occasional cracklng of the Radio .Suddenly rang out Extremely ,Loud and Clear. ''Antwerp Pilot ,Antwerp Pilot, Celtic Ferry , Celtic Ferry calling Antwerp Pilot. i thought Christ! ,I'm Home. Uncanny! Talk about the Channels! Went after breakfast to the Mate's Cabin. ( The Swede ships allowed Pay -off any Port where there's
a Swedish Consul) A number of them intended ,leaving at Rotterdam, with the idea of going down to Spain for a While)
'Alright if I Pay-Off in Rotterdam ,Chief? Thought you were staying till Stockholm, But Ja ! O.K.
