    Hi Andrew.
Welcome to this great sight on all things MN, hope you enjoy all the stories and that they bring back some memories. You was on one of the best runs in the world at the time, I missed out on one ship being paid off sick.
    Cheers Des

Hi Des.At the age of sixteen and a total no hoper at school? I ended up with my parents having lunch with Moxley at the Royal Docks in Sept 58. It was obvious that I was going somewhere, but how, where and when I had no idea. "I've got a nice ship going to Canada soon, If you want, you can fly out with a new crew and join her. She's on the MANZ run. Sx monthss I thought but I was wrong. The Whakatane was a fine ship, clean as all the company boats were, and a great crew, and the rest is history. Yes it was a great run and as you can see I did it quite a few times. I guess it was routine. Also I was very much a 'company man', even if my overtime as a peggy was only sixpence an hour. But you know, those long trips helped the learning curve a great deal, and I discovered what life really was all about. Just memories now though. Go well and go safely.
