Chris you have your relative down as officer in Palm Line. He wasn't a cargo Purser was he. I was on one Palm Line charter in 1961 or thereabouts (would have to look up) where we carried such. His discharge book number would fit in with this time period. I cant remember his name, but he was an ex army person. I always remember him as he was on about 5 pounds a month more than me as second mate, and I was doing all the running around. He spoke a lot of the dialects down the West Coast. I cant remember his name and is only a 100 to 1 shot. Am sure others may have definite knowledge of him as there are Palm Line people on site. Cheers JS

    Thanks for your response JS

I would have to check the details of his rank at the time but he has been a cargo purser. I don't think he made second mate till he was on Wilson Line but as I say, only he knows at the moment and this research is a surprise for his 80th.
Not ex army but is one for west coast accents! Born in the Isle of Man
I will do some more digging and come back to you if I find out more
    thanks again

The army bit, I assumed he had done his national service. Remember the person I am referring to started of at sea as a writer, remember him telling me. As regards doing a surprise for his 80th birthday, I hope none of my family delve into my past in 11 months time as some of the worms might come out of the woodwork, and might get construed the wrong way. That program that Eamon Andrews used to do This is Your Life, I used to cringe at , as could imagine some female of years ago would appear out of the blue and throw a spanner in the works. Anyhow the best of luck with your quest. Regards JS

If he was born in 1936, which relates to his Dis A Number (see#3) then he will be 85 and not 80, and believe me 5 years at this age certainly makes a difference!! even 12 months makes a difference

Enjoyed that Keith, certainly did bring back memories , especially heading up the creeks to Sapele. Also loading loads at Takoradi and Tema?
