I was on many UBC Ships, on the Baltic Express in 1970 two men were killed in terrible weather en routes to Methil in Scotland, their names were Kirk (Charlie) Church chief officer and Chris Wardle, carpenter, I saw the accident from the saloon, both men were terribly injured, Chris was airlifted ashore by helicopter but the mate died onboard, the chief steward (David (dusty) Miller and I put the mate in a spare engineers cabin and then we had the terrible task of having to pack and list all his clothing and possessions .
I would be eternally grateful,if anyone out there has any information on either men's families, Kirk was from Shoeburyness and Chris was from South Shields.
