Brian welcome also. Re the British Magnus. After BUE broke up and various Directors of the company took their money out, the British Magnus was taken as collateral by one of the Directors as his part of the Company. I broke off with another North Sea company and received the offer of a job with him via the telephone, and joined the British Magnus sometime about Feb. 91 at Wallsend as a supernumary for a so called familiarisation course under the guise on the owners advice of saying I was the acting superintendant. On joining her however her master was Denis Robinson who I knew as had been an apprentice as the same time as myself in a well known NE company, so any so called double talk was done away with and I explained to him the score which he was quite happy with. After a few weeks I took over from him and went into lay up in Sunderland, where the heli deck was removed and the vessel went back as a straight supply vessel. I was then sailing on her as master from 28.3.91 to 24.4.91. Had words with one of the offshore managers and wasn't asked back for a second trip. Was then put on to converting some American supply vessels in Sunderland before sailing on same. These were for the same owner of the British Magnus. However you may or not be interested to know that I believe the British Magnus finally finished up at Garden Island a Fremantle Naval base and was used by the Australian Navy as a submarine tender. I emigrated out here in November 91 and was working offshore, the mate I had was up for his 2nd. mates FG. and had been offered the run job as second mate to bring her out here, he was to pick her up at Wallsend. As he had not got the results of his ticket he asked me if I would stand in for him and do the job if he failed the exam. I was only too keen to do this during my leave as would have been a quick jaunt back for a pint of decent beer. I was on stand by right up until he phoned me from Perth airport to say he had passed and was on his way. I felt pleased for him but sorry I missed out on the free trip back. I have never got down to the naval base to see if the magnus renamed obviously to what I don't know, is still around, but very much doubt. Anyhow that is where she finished up. This must have been about 92 or 93. All the best. Cheers John S
