Welcome aboard Douglas. Looks like we have a few things in common here. British and Australian ships, had a home in Ardross, Perth (and Kinclaven Perthshire!!) sailed on WA Shipping Service MV Koolinda. Looking forward to your posts.

Douglas, what part of the booming city of Perth do you live at. You go up to Feb. 09 so assume you retired then. I retired a bit before this in 02. Live down at Singleton. Used to live in Kelmscott. Paths may have passed sometime but dont recollect the name, but always had a bad memory for same, unless a nickname. Cheers John S

Dougie ships on out here were... Pacific Dart, Smitt LLoyd 105, Smitt LLoyd 107, Pacific Marlin, Miclyn Pride, Java Bali, Mariner (Drill ship), Australia Tide, Dickerson Tide, Maersk Lifter, Maersk Retriever, Maersk Supporter, Nordic Explorer, Sea Lion, Canning Tide, Teknic Putra ( working Singapore for 3 months), Western Legend, Jan Steen, Mermaid Raider, Miclyn Surveyor, Mermaid Achiever, Mermaid Angler, Mermaid Eagle, Ramform Challenger (Norwegian) filling in Singapore. Master Tide. Mighty Tide. Geo Angler. A Russian survey ship cant remember the name. Nearly in that order from 91 to 2002. Various oil rigs, the most notable being the Ocean Epoch on tow from the Bass Straits to the NW shelf, dropped an anchor off Fremantle right on top of phone cable to Singapore. Cheers John Sabourn

Hi John, I used to live in East Freo in the early days, now live in Willetton.I cant recall your name, i know most of the older seamen in Freo. I spent the latter years on the King Bay Tugs and you do lose touch. I will dig out my discharge papers and post my ships on my next post.
    Regards Doug M

John, Here is the list of Aussie ships i was on, some two or three times not much choice here. Nyanda, Eugene Mcdermott , Ocean Endeavor rig, Esso Gippsland, Australian Prospector, Bass Tide, Iron Hunter, Australian Purpose, BP Enterprise, Australian Progress, Magnitor anchor handler, Iron Capricorn, Gray Foil, Western Odyssey, King Bay Tugs. Not many for 32 years service. I see by your ship list that they are all offshore jobs, some good ones but a lot of them not so good. I remember the Mariner when she was here 81/82, lots of problems, she came back a second time, thats when you must have been on her.
    Regards Doug M.
