    Default M.V. British Piper

    Hallo Des

I wondered if you could tell me anything about the British Piper?
My interest in this ship is that I have owned a model of it for 30 years or so.
I understood the model was made by the ship's carpenter sometime in the 1950's.
The model is about two foot long, is exceptionally detailed, and was made entirely from odds and sods lying around the ship.
I also have a newspaper cutting somewhere, which may give the names of the captain and the carpenter, but can't find this at the moment.
Any information at all would be appreciated.
I was never in the merchant marine myself - nearest I came was when I almost served on an RFA about 1963, but I served on HMS Ark Royal for a year on her third commission.
    Regards
    Adrian Vine

    Hi Adrian
I just saw this post, sorry long time ago hope you are still looking in., I went to I think Baton Rouge then Antwerp on the British Piper. I do know that blokes used to make models of ships, one in particular was a tanker, with lights throughout, made out of the tin from beer cans, lovely model, but him and his mate who had made a guitar, got drunk, smashed the guitar, so his mate dropped the model out of the porthole in Port Said, it floated away.
    Cheers Des
