Any one out there?
Today I was speaking with a gentleman who was at one time, twice actualy, mayor of our town.
He has what one would describe as a loveable Irish accent, I asked him what part of the country he came from, the capital he replied. Oh said I Dublin, no said he Liverpool. Lived in the Aintree area of the city.
Born in 1924 he joined the Merchant Navy in 1942 his fist ship the SS Stal a Danish ship he told me.
He started as a mess/galley boy and spent his time at sea in the catering department sailing on the Port Jackson and the Esperance.
He has told me he will find his discharge book as he cannot recall all his ships. Jumped ship in Wellington Christmas eve 1945.
His name is Albert Kelly.
Do any of you know him or have heard of him?

Re: Any one out there?
Probably found it more convenient to have a loveable Irish accent than an English one, whoops sorry Scouse accent. Always amazed me in the States how many Irish accents you heard, but when talking to them, they didn't even know where it was, same with the Italians in the States

I believe his mother lived down Paradise Row and encouraged folks to sit on her doorstep. She'd got a little hole in her frock,a hole
in her shoe, a hole in her sock where her toe peeped through. She was a very holy woman to be sure she was.
Good luck in your search to find Albert, John H.D.
