I got an e-mail telling me Vinnie McArdle had died suddenly, no details, many of the Liverpool crowd here will have known him or known of him, he was in the film Cunard Yanks and was an old school big ship steward and always good to give a song or two, RIP Vinnie.

That's just what I thought Jim when I got the e-mail with the Echo obituary notice attached, maybe there has been some moves in high places that we haven't heard about.

I have edited this thread to show that it is Vinnie McArdle and not Phil who has crossed the bar.

Hi Phill,
I never sailed with Vinnie but was Offshore on an Accomadation Rig with Him for 2yrs. Dyvi Gamma 1984--86. in Morecambe Bay Gas Field.
She was Norwegian Flag but had many UK personell on board. The catering crew were mainly Liverpool men, mostly ex,Cunard, C.P.R. ect, a great crowd to be among.
I last met Vinnie a few years ago in the Eldonian, He invited me and my mate to have a few pints and a yarn with Him at the Captains Table,up in the top corner were He always sat.
I'll be at St Nick's on the 14th to wish Him Fair winds and a Following Sea. R.I.P. Vinnie.
