Officer's Cap Badge - Dating
Hi,
I inherited this badge and would like to know roughly how old it is. I appreciate that it's just a standard badge but wondered whether things like the spacing of the elements of the badge and minor detail differences would allow it to be dated. Any thoughts appreciated.

Re: Officer's Cap Badge - Dating
It looks like as you say a normal cap badge , Standard issue and that one is around the WW2 Mark , so about 1939 or possibly a wee bit earlier!
Cheers

Re: Officer's Cap Badge - Dating
Is still the stated British Merchant Navy Cap Badge and will date back to the time that the Mercantile Marine got the title of Merchant Navy. The more modern cap badge which displays the contours of the RN badge is not recognised uniform , was originally bought in places like Bombay to satisfy the wearers vanity only. I have one exactly the same which had to get in 1988 when everything had to be by the book as regards uniform , my old one had too much red lead and other substances on, everything was authentic as regards uniform and was done by the experts who deal in uniform. So the date will be as stated when the Merchant Marine got its official title Merchant Navy. Cheers JS...
