If you had been there in the late 70s then Tony and looked across the River towards Custom House Quay you could have waved to us. We used to lie there whilst the divers were coming out of de-compression. I finished up in the river one time in Helensburgh climbing down the slippery pylons of the jetty back down to the ships launch ,we had 3 wrens in the boat and they thought it was a huge joke. JS

In the early 60s I used to hang around on that jetty with a couple of local lads, there was always a few RN vessels anchored off and a local boat would run back and forth to ferry the boys who had shore leave.
The two local lads used to stay out on Friday and Saturday nights to make some extra cash, 6d a time off the shore patrol for shopping drunken matelots.
