Hi Peter,Canadian Pacific took over the Mersey Towing Company which included the tugs Beaver,Otter and Panther..That was 1903 so woud that've been the same tug that you are talking about.

I remember the Perthshire sinking the Applegarth that cold night. I knew a couple of guys onboard. The Applegarth belonged to Rea Towing, and I worked on the restoration after they raised her. I was an apprentice fitter at W.B. Cubbins West Float at the time, before I joined the Merch. After she was restored, we went out on sea trials in the river and went as far as the Bar and back. She was always known as the "Duck Applegarth" after that.

Hello, I thought I would tell you that my father Colin Stuart, who was an Engineer Officer on one of the Canadian Pacific Duchess ships (I think the Duchess of Bedford) in the late 1920s -early 30s often told me (for reasons I could never understand) that there were three ocean-going tugboats on the Great Lakes and they were called Wapiti, Moose and Bison. That's it! I hope he was being accurate although I've never been called upon to apply this information until now! Steve S.
