    Default Buries Experience

Joined as Cadet in 1963 and made 3rd Mate by the time I left in 1970.
Sailed on La Hacienda, La Colina, La Primavera, La Chacra, La Loma, La Estancia, La Sierra
Although I will never forget my time with the Company, I can't say that the tough life as an apprentice with Buries did me any harm.

Was in the "LA LOMA" May '68-Oct '68,joined here in Cardiff with cars for California and Vancouver.Mexico(Mazatlan) next with grain for Japan, cars back to New Orleans and finally Tampa and phosphate back to Birkenhead.Great times and paid off with £13.It was £31 but customs had £18 off me at Birkenhead for a Seiko watch.Happy days....Dave

Hi Everybody and thanks for your replies. Unfortunately not been able to get back to the site for sometime due to various family problems.
Ok here goes with more information:-
First ship was La Hacienda 1963 to 64 then La Colina Oct 64 to April 65. Then La Chacra June to August 65.
La Primavera Aug 65 to Dec 65. La Loma Feb 66 to March 67. La Sierra May 67 to June 68 La Loma Oct 68 to Nov 68 (3rd Mate) La Estancia Nov 68 to Dec 69

Hope this will now help me find any of my old shipmates

    Regards
    Ernest

    Default gardiner

I joined La Estancia in Oct. 67 as an apprentice.
From what I heard from others, the life was pretty hard on the other ships, but not on mine! Looking back I think you learn so much more if you are driven hard.
Sometimes I regret not finishing my time at sea.
