    Hi Steve,
I was not known as Robert. I was John and I was Bosun on all the Chemmies from 1975 until Nov. 1982
Your name rings a bell were you a cook steward? Sorry to have taken so long to get back to you ,am retired now and am doing nearly as many hours as I did at sea.I wish I could turn the clock back, they were such great times. I know we had a gripe now and again, but on the whole it was a good life.I hope you and your family are well . I finished with the sea in Nov 1982 to have my first hip replacement In June this year I will be having my fourth.hip, hip, hip, hip hurray . In the main I am in good health, Take care Steve John.

Hi,my name is Eamonn McGuffin and I sailed on the La Sierrar as the Radio Officer, joined her in Yokohama in October 1971, we then ran iron ore from a place called San Nicolas Bay in Chile and back to yokohama on a couple of occasions before sailing through the Panama canal and back to Antwerp. The ship was a bit of a mess and broke down on several occasions crossing the pacific. On our way back to Yokohama, we had to drop off a 3rd engineer in Hawaii after he became sick (lucky bastard)

Regarding George Phillips, I remember him very well, an Ulsterman, great guy, sorry to understand he must have passed away. Do you remember John Bottomley? Chief Engineer, I kept in touch with John although not very often. I also remember your dad, Hulton the Sultan, they were terrific days.

Steve, I forgot to mention but I would think you might already know that John Bottomley passed away.

Hello Eamonn, I was on that crew change, a sod of a flight from London to every stop on the way to Japan, seems to me it was about a 24 hour flight? Yes, the Sierra was a mess, I was electrician so I got more sleepless nights than Macbeth. Still, I did two more trips with Buries then moved on. We actually dropped off two engineers in Hawaii on our way from San Nicholas Bay (I think it was in Peru? Maybe not) to Chiba, in Yokohama Bay, one was the 3rd Eng called Peter Bremner, he had kidney stones, an Aberdonian who I sailed with next trip, and the 4th Eng a bloke called John somebody, he got injured in an engine room repair but there was nothing wrong with him, he just used it as an excuse to get off.
I remember Buries as a decent company but ships in dire need of much repair.
