BP T2s and deck colour

Good Evening all, just joined up with BMN lfof and fascinated by all I see.

I made attempts to find out, via "search" something about the BP T2s and the colour their decks were painted but couldn't locate anything. I was with BP from '52 to '56 as apprentice, saw plenty of the T2s but never served on one. Now, over half a century later I can't remember anything about the deck colour. I make model ships and am currently on with a T2.

In '56 I joined Esso and was on and off their T2s for a few years.

Perhaps someone could help on this one, many thanks.

hello friend, i sailed on the hyricania. t2,. baltic trading co. 50 years ago. and the decks were red leaded , no elf 'n safety then, of course this may not have been the original colour as the ship was old then. i will never forget it was my first trip , and a wave smashed a deadlight, and port glass, throwing a seaman out of his bunk breaking some ribs. the after accomodation was flooded and the deck sea doors where leaking .the seaman was put ashore in america.i could go on forever. best regards , billy.

Hi Alex.

I sailed on the British Pioneer,Resource,Envoy,Duke
and the Hero.If my memory serves me right,the decks
were green.I was in catering,so dont bet money on this.

hi shipmates I was on a few of them wonderful feeders, The decks were Green on some of them? but some had red paint as well maybe red lead or proper red deck paint with a couple of hands full of sand, slip proof paint !!!! I was on "British Commerce , British Patrol, British Hawthorn, british merlin, The merlin had self working capstans steam driven? new in my time. I must have had to much of the deturgent, cant remember the name of it? in my tea or the oil fumes must still get to me, or was all that washing the tanks with those spinning things on the end of them the reason? I had the big spanner for the deck nuts.

I WAS ON THE MESA VERDE(BTC) IN 1946 AND ALSO IN 1953 AND TO THE BEST I CAN REMEMBER THEY WERE A DARK COLOUR.
WE HAD A MAD 1stMATE WHO HAD US OPEN TANK GET SOME CRUDE OUT AND MOP THE TANK DECK,HE ALSO HAD OTHER ZANY IDEAS DOING AWAY WITH PAINT BRUSHES. AND USES COTTON WASTE.
.THE CAPTAIN(COLMAN) WAS MAD AT HIM AS THERE OIL ALL OVER THE ACCOMADATIONS.
I WAS GREAT FOR LIFTING THE RUST.

British Emerald is Mould-Breaking in the colours she sports,and Orange Hull, Light Green Deck and a Sand-Coloured Trunk Deck BP Shipping

So just wondering if this may well be the colours that were always used??

Thank you indeed for your kind welcome to the forum. I am still finding my way around somewhat.....and there is quite a lot to find out! I will certainly fill in the Crew list particulars

Many thanks for all the comments and reminiscenses on deck colours...it has been a revelation to me that there does not appear to have been a standard specification covering this. Red, black, green : a good choice to pick from .

HYRCANIA Bill? I was on her May 58 untill April 59, Joined in Amsterdam, and left in Falmouth. There were a lot of things to remember about that ship, but looking back I enjoyed the trip. Cheers Albi
