Dave Cummins - RIP
Couldn't find mention anywhere on here ... Dave Cummins from Monkseaton has passed away
Dave was 2nd mate on the Laurel (with Ian Stuart Warner) when I was Deck Cadet in 1973 and I know he went on to become mate on the Dragoon when she was lightering - he was Drag One!
In latter years he was with Rowbotham Tankships and was Skipper on the Stellaman, my last trip to sea, when he threw a leaving party for me whilst we were awaiting a berth at Immingham.
I think he joined BP around 1964 as a Deck Cadet.

Re: Dave Cummins - RIP
I lived in Monkseaton and West Monkseaton at one time for many years. The name sounds familiar but I cant put a face to the name. Do you know what area of Monkseaton he lived. Regards John Sabourn

Hi John .... Sadly I do not, but he showed me some photo's of the place whilst on the Stellaman and it very much resembled an ancient castle!

Very sorry to hear about Dave, I sailed as Mate with him on the Stellaman. I liked his dry sense of humour and we got on well together, both socially and professionally. My thoughts are with his family.

Re: Dave Cummins - RIP
#5.... Only place I can think of is years ago right opposite the Monkseaton Arms where there used to be some old buildings, now gone for many years. One bloke I did know from West Monkseaton was Stan Winstanton he was 2nd. mate on the Pullborough and his brother Cook/ steward I believe. Dave Cummings may of been in this group myself included who used to get in the Black Horse a pub a hundred yards or so up from the Monkseaton Arms. Very sorry to hear of his passing however. All the best. John S.
