BRITISH PIPER and shipmates of GORDEN FRANCIS DAVIES
Hi to you all,
My name is Norm Foley,my father was in the merchant navy.
His name before jumping ship in NZ, was Gorden Francis Davies
one of the ships he served on was the British Piper this was around 1952.
He was on a few others as well.People I remember from this time was Malcolm Evans,Dixie Dean and one I knew as Blondy.
Would anyone know of other ships my father served on and if anyone who also worked at Roxbough dam in NZ from about 1953 to about 1956,as I have fond members of this group of men.
Kind Regards to you all
Norm Foley

The only Dixie Dean I met at sea was a steward on the Ruahine in 1956. Could this be the guy you seek?

Hi Norm Via Gulliver.
I was on the British Piper in 1953, did a trip which included NZ where about ten of the crew jumped in various ports, Four Geordies jumped in New Plymouth. Those were the days of the mass jumping over there.
Cheers Des
