    Default Saxon and Seattle Star

I did one trip on the Saxon Star Aug.5-Jan.56 down the NZ/Aussie coast. She was an old bucket, but a great crew as I recall. The Seattle Star Feb.58-Jun.58 went up the west coast of US and Vancouver. She was a much nicer ship. Carried a few passengers and a cargo of Scotch. The old man was getting worried that there would be none left by the time we got to BC!! I Remember a family and their two Labrodor dogs on board going to Vancouver. When we got their we had the hatches uncovered before arrival. Unfortunately, one of the dogs got loose and jumped onto the hatch, not realising it was open. He didn't survive, and the family were heartbroken. On top of that, I believe it was the Portland Star, was in harbour the same time and we had a night out with some of the boys before they sailed. Next morning they were hauling dunnage out of a partially opened hatch, when the net caught on the beam, sending one of the crew who was guiding the winchman to the bottom of the hold. He never survived.

    Cool Seattle Star

    [Hi

Did a coastal trip(3 days) on the Seattle Star from London to Glasgow as R/O in 1955. Seemed like a nice old tub but was't on her long enuff to find out. Was then 'placed' on President Kruger, flew out to Cairo to join her in Port Said and was away 11 months and 20 days!! She was only 3 months old and never went back to the UK again.
    cheers
    Tony Cooke
