    Cool Tasmania Star

I was in the Tasmania Star for a few months laid up in the River Fal in summer 1961. Whilst tying up to the buoys, the O.M. turned to me & said"this bloody Pilot is a queer" Every order the Cornish Pilot gave, ended with "lover" or "moi darlin" We had nothing to do but pass the time in a local pub, the landlord came to collect us in his land rover every night. Sometimes we took the boat to Truro and used to bring back the local scrubbers. The old boy who ran the ferry used to get us poached pheasants & illegal oysters. It was a shame I had to go back to London & resit my ticket, I could have stayed there indefimitely.

I remember the Coaster the Waveney very well I had two ex deep sea ship mates that joined the Waveney approx 1967, Jim Duggan AB and Howard Brown AB, I am presently trying to track down both People I was on the Zealandic with Jim Duggan when she was anchored off Southend Pier for a couple of months, I believe he joined the Waveney after that, He also lived in Southend -on-Sea with a girl called Jennie who came from Leigh-on-Sea Essex. both AB,s bfore that sailed on Federal line ships. I went aboard the Waveney and she had the Blue Star funnel on her and distributed Blue star Cargo around the British Coast. Glenn Baker
